Donna Lynn Eaton Memorial Scholarship

$1,000.00, a one-year sponsored
membership to the local chapter of the
Central Carolina Black Nurses’
Council, and one ticket to the Annual
Education-Lecture Luncheon
-A list of female students who are in need of financial
assistance is recommended from Winston-Salem State
University School of Nursing
-Name, age, city, state, social security number, grade point
average, and religious affiliation is submitted
-Candidate must be currently enrolled in a nursing program
(B.S.N., A.D. Diploma or L.P.N./L.V.N.) in good scholastic
standing.
-GPA of at least 2.7
-Applicant must have at least five months of school
remaining.
The Great 100 distributes scholarships
based on a rotational selection from all
schools of nursing. Each scholarship
for this degree is for $2000 with the
recipient being selected by the Schools
of Nursing rather than The Great 100
Scholarship Committee.
-Scholastic achievement (Must demonstrate potential to
successfully complete program).
-A minimum of one semester remaining in school.
-Resident in North Carolina.
-Has financial need.
-Actual or potential contribution to the nursing profession.
-Character.
-Participation in student and/or community activities.
-Other factors as determined by the School of Nursing.
Award a yearly scholarship in the
amount of$300 - $400 to a deserving
nursing student
Minimal criteria are mandated by the Association other than
that the selection be based on:
-Evidenced need
-Academic standing (A-B average)
-Evidenced willingness to achieve
-Senior BSN student
Award a yearly scholarship in the
amount of $250
Qualifications are:
-A student in need (with NCLEX or cap & gown expenses).
- A person who has excelled in his/her grades.
- A person who thinks of the patient first before their
financial gain.
- A person seeking to further their education with experiences
from hands-on care of the patients.
Submit letter of interest, transcript and
documentation of financial need to Chair of
DON Scholarship committee by August 15th of
each year
-Must submit a completed CCBNC scholarship
application form.
-Official Transcript from the University/College
-Two letters of recommendation. One
recommendation must be from a faculty member
of the Nursing Program.
-Written Essay: No longer than 5 pages, typed
and double-spaced (essay topics are found in the
application package)

B. Provides a brief statement indicating
why this student was selected and

(Material must be returned by a March

2. The President of The Great 100, Inc. will send
the scholarship check directly to the student
upon receipt of the signed application form
showing the student’s intent to complete the
nursing program and work in North Carolina.
3. The recipient and guest will be invited to
attend The Great 100 Gala.
DON selects the student.
The Association extends an invitation to the
scholarship recipient to attend their annual
meeting in April.

Summers-Horton Scholarship
Awarded yearly in the amount of $500
Full time junior or senior in Upper Division.
- A minimum 2.5 GPA
- No final course grades in Upper Division lower than C
- 2 letters of recommendation from clinical/theory nursing
instructors
- An essay of 500 words or less on “How will your
contribution improve the nursing program?”

$1200. Given every two years (even
years) to a nursing major
Awarded to a full-time nursing student pursuing a first
undergraduate degree.

- Rising sophomore, junior or senior
- Awarded to a senior BSN student in need of assistance
with payment of NCLEX examination
- Recipient must agree to make a contribution to the fund
