About the Program The Teaching Online Certificate program is a structured, flexible program that provides multiple perspectives on best practices in designing and engaging learners in an online course. This program allows you to work closely with a mentor to create an individualized learning plan, based on your own unique goals, to help gain valuable insight on a variety of topics from basic course design through online student engagement. Using Blackboard, this program allows faculty to engage in online learning from a student perspective. Faculty can expect to spend about 5–7 hours to complete each week’s assignment. Faculty who may not be interested in attaining the certificate are welcome to tailor the program requirements. Contact the Faculty Resource Center at frc@uccs.edu 1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy. This is an important “first step” to navigating the program’s course shell to access the self-paced content modules, collaborative options, and the assignments. Mentor Meeting Your mentor will be your main connection to the program. Together with your mentor, you will customize a plan that addresses your specific needs while completing the program requirements. Program Activities To receive a certificate, you must complete the self-paced online modules, participate in the collaborative sessions, and complete all of the assignments specified in the syllabus. Content Modules The modules are designed to assist faculty to expand their online teaching toolbox. These modules look at best practices for building an online course structure and designing course content for online delivery. All live sessions will be held online via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra and are recorded. Please consult the Task List available in the course shell for specific dates. Assignments All assignments are designed to guide you through the steps of designing a course that is ready to teach online. You will develop learning objectives, course content, and assignments and assessments, along with a welcome letter and syllabus and a course structure in Blackboard. Capstone Project The Capstone Project brings together all of your course planning into the development of your online course in Blackboard. You will develop a course structure that includes content modules, a welcome letter and a learner-centered syllabus while using the Quality Matters™ rubric as a guideline. Your Capstone Project will typically be due within two weeks after the course completion.
