JOB SUMMARY: Working under the authority and general direction of the City Manager for door-to-door energy education and outreach in the winter of 2016.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Successfully participates in a mini-Energy University Training Program provided.
2. Supervises youth who will be serving in the key education and outreach staff effort for the
Georgetown University Energy Prize Competition to achieve the highest per capita energy reduction in the nation for approximately three months.
3. Supervises team of four Youth Energy Ambassadors to complete going door-to-door after school and on Saturdays (approximately 800 homes total).
4. Ability to drive teams to numerous areas throughout the City.
5. Communicates effectively to youth for training and reminder purposes and to adults living in the home on how they can save money by conserving energy.
6. Ensures the Youth Energy Ambassadors knocks repeatedly on each door and waits to have conversations with adults that answer. The goal is to reach an average of 10 homes per hour (assumes some will not be home).
7. Ensures that clearly legible notes are recorded to effectively record email addresses, contact information, and tracks which homes were visited.
8. Turns in records to City Hall overall supervisor daily (City Manager or designee).
9. Ensures all safety and health practices are followed and that any issues/barriers to success are promptly, completely, and accurately reported to City Manager or designee.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Applicant must be over 18 years old and have a safe and reliable automobile to transport the Youth Energy Ambassador Team with a capacity of five seats and seatbelts.
2. Has own automobile insurance and clean driving record with the capacity to increase insurance to $2 million for bodily injury and to 500,000 for uninsured/underinsured coverage.
City to reimburse this insurance rider cost (estimated to be $100 per year).
3. Has a personally-owned smart phone that the individual is willing to use in handling effective communications for the required tasks.
4. Effective guidance, coaching and supervisor skills.
5. Effective oral communication skills.
6. Ability to learn new technical information and communicate clearly and pleasantly.
7. Ability to handle complex questions.
8. Physical ability to walk between homes in winter conditions for at least one hour at a time followed by another hour after a five minute break.
9. Bilingual capability preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Outdoor environment with potential discomforts caused by cold and wind while walking between block-by-block warm-ups.
2. Travel and weather discomforts and working primarily on front porches and walking door-todoor.
3. Flex hours -- late afternoons and Saturday mid-morning and early afternoons.
