EXPERIENTIAL CREDITS (EWP 401)
for the
Environmental Writing and Rhetoric Minor
Students in the EWR minor are required to have three experiential credits, listed on the
transcript as EWP 401. After reading the possibilities below, you should meet with the
respective instructor listed below to begin developing a proposal.
Potential projects are as follows:
Internship Project: Students will perform a community-based internship experience
culminating in a writing project that will benefit the site. Examples of possible projects are
grant proposals, training manuals, newsletters, feasibility reports, websites, and video
productions. Students must submit a project proposal in consultation with the instructor and
receive approval before registering for the course (EWP 401).

Writing Resource Center Project: Students choose to either tutor in the Writing Resource
Center (WRC) for six hours per week for one semester, or to engage in a project to support
the WRC’s efforts, such as writing grant proposals, researching topics on English as a Second
Language, working on the WRC website, delivering writing workshops, or developing
resources for writing tutors and students. Students must submit a project proposal in
consultation with the instructor and receive approval before registering for the course (EWP
401).

Independent Writing Project: Students will design and complete a writing project, which
could be fiction, poetry, or non-fiction. The proposal should include an outline of their
project, a couple of sentences about their goals for the project, deadlines spread throughout
the semester, and at least one book (or several shorter pieces) within the same genre that they
will read and critique. Students must submit a project proposal in consultation with the
instructor and receive approval before registering for the course (EWP 401).
