Mining strategies for improved online research and resource development
New trends in online learning include Web 2.0 tools
Examine own potential strengths and challenges in relation to demands and structure of online learning

Teaching Online:
Identify and explain major of current online pedagogical practices
Identify two specific strategies that could be directly integrated into an online or hybrid course currently
taught by participant.
Identify a minimum of two areas of participant’s current interpreting curriculum to integrate potential
learning objects into online instruction.
Presenter Biographies
Suzanne Ehrlich
Dr. Ehrlich's research includes her dissertation work examining teaching American Sign Language using
videoconferencing technology, as well as the integration of e-learning technologies in interpreter education curricula.
She is a nationally certified interpreter (CI and NAD IV) and developed the specialization in Signed Language
Interpreting and Deaf Studies at the University of Cincinnati, which incorporates both synchronous and
asynchronous online learning environments. Dr. Ehrlich has presented nationally and internationally on the topics of
e-learning and educational technology integration for interpreter education. Dr. Ehrlich’s service includes her
previous work as Director of Communications and Technology for the Conference of Interpreter Trainers. She was
recently awarded the inaugural Innovative Uses of Technology in Teaching award by the University of Cincinnati
Earl Parks
Earl Parks is the executive director of Gallaudet University Technology Operations. As such he leads both
synchronous and asynchronous efforts, exploring their application to the bilingual environment of American Sign
Language and English. Mr. Parks has presented on lecture capture technologies, classroom capture technologies, and
bilingual web conferencing with multipoint video.

is providing this event as part of its mission of outreach within its region and as part of a
national effort to increase the number of qualified interpreters within the US.
