By Jake Inzillo Asia is the world’s largest and most populated continent located in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It covers 8% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29% of its land area) and with approximately 4 billion people, it has 60% of the world's current human population. During the 20th century Asia's population raised four times the amount of people. Asia is traditionally known as part of the landmass of Eurasia. Asia has an area of 44,579,000 km2 and a population of 3,879,000,000. http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://studentweb.cencol.ca/wtsang15/COMP%2520213/Midterm/worldmap.gif&imgrefurl=http://studentweb.cencol.ca/wtsang15/COMP%2520213/Midterm/midterm213.htm&usg=__miJwZmirSsaivqCZENmy7xlms js=&h=519&w=800&sz=90&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=ceZ5qNeYjAlS3M:&tbnh=123&tbnw=190&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dworld%2Bmap% 26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1408%26bih%3D809%26tbs%3Disch:1%26prmd%3Di&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=335&ei=M6WyTLa6BoGvgOevZzNBQ&oei=M6WyTLa6Bo-GvgOevZzNBQ&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=72&ty=58 1. 2. 3. 4. Asia is the biggest continent in the world The continent of Asia is so large and that it often is divided into Sub-regions. China and India are the most populated countries in Asia. Did you know that more people live in India than in Central America, North America and South America – altogether! 5. Asia’s most western point is Cape Baba in Northwestern Turkey. Turkey forms a natural bridge between the continents Asia and Europe. It is the only country between two continents SW of Asia and SE Europe. This is special because without Turkey Asia and Europe would just be like Australia and not joined to another continent. Antarctica is the driest of all the continents. This is because in Antarctica it is too cold for the sun to heat up the oceans or melt the ice, so it will not evaporate. Antarctica is the coldest, driest, and windiest place on Earth. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -89.6 degrees Celsius. Our Asian neighbors are: 1. East Timor 2. Papua New Guinea 3. Indonesia 4. Philippines 5. Cambodia 6. Thailand 7. Malaysia 8.
