All submissions for the 2015 issue of The Mockingbird must be received by October 31, 2014. Eligibility The Mockingbird is East Tennessee State University’s student art and literature magazine. All currently enrolled ETSU students are eligible to submit to The Mockingbird. Entry Requirements There is no fee for entry. Students may submit to multiple categories. Poetry: Students may submit up to five poems per year. Individual poems should not exceed two (2) singlespaced pages. Fiction: Students may submit up to two pieces of fiction per year. Total submission to the fiction category should not exceed twenty (20) double-spaced pages. Non-Fiction: Students may submit up to two pieces of non-fiction per year. Total submission to the nonfiction category should not exceed twenty (20) double-spaced pages. Drama: Students may submit up to two pieces of drama per year. Total submission to the drama category should not exceed twenty (20) double-spaced pages. Please watch for announcements concerning the art competition during the spring semester. Format All entries must be typed with one-inch margins and twelve-point font. Poems must be single-spaced; entries to other categories must be double-spaced. Each piece must be accompanied by a cover sheet that includes your name, student ID number, telephone number, and email address, as well as the title of the work. We will not accept untitled entries. The Mockingbird practices blind submission; please include your student ID number and the title of the work in the upper margin of each page, but do not place your name anywhere in the pages of the work itself. We will not consider entries that do not follow these guidelines. Paper Submissions List each piece on the completed submission form. Include two (2) copies of each piece in your submission. Please retain an electronic copy of each submission; we will request electronic copies of paper submissions once contest winners have been determined. Deliver paper submissions to Jacob Vines in The Mockingbird office (101G Burleson Hall) or via ETSU’s Department of Literature and Language. Electronic Submissions The body of your email must contain your name, student ID number, major, class standing (e.g. freshman, sophomore), mailing address, and phone number. List each submission by title and category in your email. Attach submissions your email in .doc, .docx, .odt or .rtf format. Each piece should have its own document file. The first page of each document must be a cover page including your name, student ID number, telephone number, and email address, as well as the title of the work. Residual Rights The Mockingbird reserves the following rights pertaining to publishing material: (i) in addition to print publication, The Mockingbird reserves the rights to publish representational segments of all written work on our website (http://www.etsu.edu/cas/litlang/mockingbird) or Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/MockingbirdETSU) (ii) The Mockingbird reserves the rights to republish material in future anthologies, collections or solicitations and (iii) The Mockingbird returns other publishing rights to the creators with the stipulations that subsequent publications will note that The Mockingbird has been the first publisher of the material.
