SB3a: Explain the cycling of energy through the process of photosynthesis and respiration
Salad: everyone
~Make a picture book or chart using the following vocabulary words: autotroph, heterotroph,
photosynthesis, chlorophyll, chloroplast, thylakoid, granum, stroma, light-dependent reaction,
light independent reaction, Calvin Cycle, ATP, ADP, cell respiration, glycolysis, pyruvate,
fermentation, aerobic, anaerobic, glucose, mitochondria, Krebs Cycle, electron transport chain,
ATP synthase . Each page/spot must include an illustration as well as a description of the word.
You may not write the text book definition.

~Draw an animation depicting the photosynthesis and cell respiration equations. You can have
two separate animations or combine the two into one animation.
~ Write a poem, rap or song explaining the photosynthesis and cell respiration equations. You
can have two separate poems, raps or songs or one that combines the two.

~Construct a simple chart or diagram that illustrates the steps of both photosynthesis and cell
respiration. For photosynthesis, begin with sunlight and end with the production of sugar. For
cell respiration, begin with glucose and end with the production of ATP. Include as much detail
as possible as well as illustrations where appropriate.
~ Write a 2 page paper (typed) explaining the entire processes of photosynthesis and cell
respiration. You must have at least 3 sources. One must be a book. Wikipedia is not a valid
source. You must have a works cited page. If any suspicion of plagiarism is suspected, your
paper will not be accepted.

~ A quiz will be given on Friday, February 11th. You will be able to use anything you have done for
your project on the quiz.
Rules: You pick what you want to do. Be creative. In the paper, grammar and sentence structure will be
counted. You must use 12 point font (Times New Roman or Calibri) and double space. On the illustrations,
remember this is not an art project so don’t spend too much time on that part and forget about the
content. You are responsible for working on this project outside of class if necessary. If you want to use
materials other than provided in class, you are responsible for getting them.
