Biography
Nur Azha Putra is a Research Associate with the Energy Security Division of
the Energy Studies Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS). His
policy research interests include geopolitics, hydro politics, and cyber
security. His professional experience includes Associate Research Fellow at
the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies - Centre for NonTraditional Security Studies, Nanyang Technological University (NTU),
participated in the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia-Pacific working
group (Security Implications of Climate Change on Asia-Pacific), and
Research Officer at the Centre for Research on Islamic and Malay Affairs. Prior to policy research, he was
a journalist with the national Malay newspaper, Berita Harian (BH), where he received the “Special
Award for Excellence” for one of his news stories. He was an Information Systems Officer at a regional
brokerage firm before joining BH.
Azha frequently writes on community and nation building, and geopolitics. He is also a co-editor of two
upcoming book volumes entitled Energy and Non-Traditional Security (NTS) in Asia (May/June 2012) &
Rethinking Energy Security: A Non-Traditional View of Human Security (May/June 2012).
Azha graduated from NTU with a Master of Science in International Political Economy (2008). He holds a
Bachelor of Information Technology from Central Queensland University, Australia (2002), and a
Professional Diploma in Enterprise Risk Management from NUS-Asia Institute of Risk Management
(2012).
Azha is also actively involved in community and nation-building projects and activities. The highlights of
