MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY CAREERS GUIDELINES FOR MAKEUP WORK
The students work together as a team and resource group. Most of the hands-on
laboratory work is done individually. This poses scheduling complications when
students miss class, for whatever the reason. The scheduling problem is compounded
when students start to fall behind.
The MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY CAREERS classroom will follow the guidelines below
for missed work or competencies that have not been met as scheduled:
The group/classroom assignments are on file in the daily assignment book. Any
student missing a day at the CACC should make a copy of the assignments.
•
The assignments should be done at home unless it requires laboratory time. If
laboratory time is needed, a student may use individual work days or makeup
days to complete the work. This will allow a student time to make up
reading/written assignments, yet not consume class time scheduled for
lectures, demonstrations, etc.
•
The student is expected to continue to prepare for new work, rather than stop
until caught up. This will require extra effort for a period of time, but allow the
student to continue working with the group covering new material.
•
The student may opt to work with a teacher consultant, at this time, if it is
determined that the student's learning style/capabilities are interfering with his
or her progress.
•
A student who misses a great deal of work is going to have a more difficult time
catching up. A reasonable amount of time will be given to the student. When it
is determined that a student's progress is disrupted due to failure to complete
competencies, a staffing (a meeting with the student, parent, instructor and
Career Center staff) will be set up to discuss the students options. Those
options may include scheduling time with a teacher consultant for additional
help or returning to the home school. The options will vary depending on the
circumstances for each student.
