them BEFORE or AFTER school.
6. Use of electronics
a. Students are not allowed to use electronic devices anytime during class.
If I see it, I take it until the end of the class.
Grading philosophy:
Engagement is the key to success! If you come to class, engage in learning, and are accountable – you
WILL LEARN and SUCCEED in my class. Effort and participation are imperative in learning another
language. Therefore, it is the policy that if you come to class, and engage in what we are doing and
learning each day; you will pass the class. You will actually have to WORK to NOT pass this class. But, if
you want the distinction that comes with a letter grade beyond a “D,” you must show evidence of
engagement and distinction of your learning through assignments, projects and formal assessments.
I grade according to the following 3 categories:
25% engagement
35% evidence of engagement
40% assessments
I have established rules of engagement that will make the class a safe and efficient environment for
Spanish learning.
ENGAGEMENT OF LEARNING: 25%
Engagement of learning = Coming to class on time, actively listening and participating in class activities,
and keeping class rules. Points will be lost due to not being engaged or any infraction of the rules listed
above. Being tardy will result in a loss of the day’s participation points.
EVIDENCE OF ENGAGEMENT: 35%
Evidence of Engagement = Keeping track of and saving all class handouts, starters, notes in the Spanish
section of your binder. Your comprehension quizzes are scored in this category along with other
classroom assignments.
ASSESSMENT: 40%
Evidence of Distinction = Achieving successful scores on Quizzes & Tests and successfully completing
projects.
GRADE SCALE AND BREAKDOWN:
A grade (93-100%)
A- grade (90-92%)
B+ grade (87-89%)
B grade (83-86%)
C+ grade (77-79%)
C grade (73-76%)
D+ grade (67-69%)
D grade (63-66%)
B- grade (80-82%)
C- grade (70-72%)
D- grade (60-62%)
LATE ASSIGNMENTS:
All assigned work will be given a due date and will be expected to be passed off, completed and/or turned
in on time. If you are unable to do this, here is what you need to know:
• Late work will be accepted for PARTIAL CREDIT.
• Late work for the first half of the quarter will be accepted up until MIDTERMS.
• Late work for the second half of the quarter will be accepted up until FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE END
OF THE QUARTER.
QUIZZES:
There will be a comprehension quiz given at the end of each story day. This helps me see how much you
comprehend in class. Students will occasionally be quizzed on the structures they are learning and other
vocabulary. They will get lots of practice with those structures before a quiz is given. Quizzes may be
given without warning, so it is important to come to class, participate, and study.
TESTS:
Students will take a final exam for each unit. These exams may be written, oral, or both. .
