Writer: Anna Contreras Reviewer: Bouchra Boudiz Unit 2 Peer Review 1- Comment Review table: 1- the theme you have selected for your paper it seems very interesting, and I think you just need to do more researches about it Theme: Homosexuality 2- You need to clarify when you have these statements; you have to cite where you got this information form, and make it clear for the readers. “ Many famous Black, poets, both men and women, were said to be Homosexual during this period including Langston Hughes” 3- Introduction is too broad, you need to use the intro to set up definition for your theme and explain how it is presented on Hughes work. Give thesis on Homosexuality. “Langston Hughes was famous for writing his poems based on what his readers were feeling or thinking. He wanted to make his black readers feel understood…” .4- Good selection, both poems are interested. You’ll have to create a stronger sense of how the conversation of “Homosexuality” connected to you poems you selected. “ Trumpet Player” and “ Café 3 A.M” Good Job 5- I like the way how you explained the poems that you chose for your theme, but I think you don’t need this big details and explanation on the poems. I think it would better if you start with a brief summary of what each poem is about and explain how they both are related to your theme. That will greatly defines and clarify your thesis statement. “ Trouble “ is referring to them being two men in love, and trouble that mellows to a golden not” “ Trumpet Player” “The poem ends with questioning whether the police woman is lesbian. While the poem may be confusing to read at first, keeping the theme…” “ Café 3 A.M” 6- Organization needs more work. For example you need to divide you work and organize the structure of your paragraph. I was kind of confused first I did not know which one is your introduction. Structure of the paper!! 7- For you literature review, you need more work on researching scholarly dialogues on Hughes, I saw you only cited two. “Poem Hunter writes and article titled, Biography of Langston Hughes” & Hughes’s story “Blessed Assurance”. 2- Memo Letter: Dear Anna, I really enjoyed reading your essay, and I liked the theme you chose that has been kind of hiding on Langston Hughes’ work and you decided to explore it and discuss it on your paper. Your paper presents the importance influence of homosexuality on Hughes’s literary work. Hughes not only focused on racism, race, class, and equality for black people. But he also includes love with the same sex or the opposite sex. And most scholars did agree that variety of his essays, poems are based on homosexuality. The first paragraph needs more work, you need to define your theme explain it and discuss how it is related to Hughes’s work. I am kind of confused about this quote I did not know if this is definition and you used it to justify your introduction to the theme. “Langston Hughes, whose literary legacy is enormous and varied, was closeted, but homosexuality was an important influence on his literary imagination, and many of his poems may be read as gay texts.” You did good job on the selection of the poems that are related to your theme “Trumpet Player” And “Café 3 A.M”. You just need to condense a little and briefly say what is each poem is about in total. In paragraph 2 you did good job citing the Article that was written by University of Illinois, “ the author explains, “ Arnold Rampersad, Hughes’ principal biographer, wrote; “ Hughes found some young men, especially dark-skinned men, appealing and sexually fascinating”. This is important quote; it would fit better in your literature review move this to your body paragraph and take time to introduce what this quote is and how it is related to your theme. This will strengthen your discussion. Paragraph 5 is good, just need to bring more resources, quotes, ideas specifically for Langston Hughes’ poetry and all articles that are related to the theme “Homosexuality “ Thank You, Good Luck
