Length : 150–200 cm Angle : 135° from the axis of the shaft, giving the stick a partly 'L-shaped' appearance Blade : 25 to 40 cm ABOUT ICE HOCKEY BASIC RULES OF ICE HOCKEY: The objective of hockey is to score more goals than your opponent on their goaltender and to have fun! GOAL POST: In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck completely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. Width of Opening : 6 ft. (180 cm) Height : 4 ft. (120 cm) Depth : 3 ft. 8 inch (110 cm) GOAL AREA: The crease is a special area of the ice designed to allow the goaltender to perform without interference. In amateur and international hockey, the goal crease is a half circle with radius of 1.8 m (6 ft). Ice Hockey Rink The size of HOCKEY RINKS in most of the world follow the IIHF specifications, which is 61 mtrs (200 ft) × 30.5 mtrs (100 ft) with a corner radius of 8.5 mtrs (28 ft). The distance from the end boards to the nearest goal line is 4 mtrs (13 ft). The distance from each goal line to the nearest blue line is 17.3 mtrs (57 ft). The distance between the two blue lines is also 17.3 mtrs (57 ft). PLAYING SURFACE There are five (5) lines on the ice, two (2) goal lines (both at the end of the ice), two (2) blue lines, separating the offensive/defensive zones from the neutral zone, and the center red line. ABOUT ICE HOCKEY PLAYERS Total Players : 6 in each team (5 skaters, 1 goaltender) The typical roster size : 20 players (12 forwards, 6 defensemen 2 goaltenders) There are an unlimited amount of substitutions and they can happen at any time; during play and/or a stoppage of play; except when the defensive team ices the puck. PERIODS (REGULATION TIME) Played in 3 Periods in duration of 20 minutes long, with intermissions in between. OVERTIME If the game is still tied at the end of regulation, there is a sudden death overtime period; meaning, if a goal is scored during this period, the game is over.
