STUDENT ENGAGEMENT CO-ORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:
Student Engagement Co-ordinator
Responsible to:
Deputy General Manager (Membership Services)
Place of Work:
Based primarily at the Chester Campus. However, the post holder
will be expected to work across all sites of Chester Students’ Union
as requested.
Purpose:
Ensure the effective co-ordination and development of collective
representation and “student voice” networks across the University of
Chester campuses and sites. Supporting the elected officers in all
campaigns and student engagement activities.
DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES

Work closely with the elected officers to ensure the sustainability and development of the
Student Academic Representation System (StARs). This will include training delivery,
events management, evaluation methods, impact assessment and associated actions.

Ensure the development and sustainability of “Above and Beyond Awards” including
marketing, organisation, delivery and evaluation of the Awards Presentation Evening.

To champion the importance of the “student voice” to partners and stakeholders.

Engage the diverse student body whilst recognising the challenges students may
encounter.

Write reports, as requested by line manager, in support of the elected officers on subjects
relating to the “student voice” and student engagement.

Support elected officers in relevant report preparation and writing.

Carry out, collate and evaluate the annual student survey and associated focus groups.

Support the elected officers to undertake regular surveys to ensure the accurate views of
students are being heard and to ensure the quality of the representation.

Support the elected officers in relevant campaigns eg. National Student Survey

Research trends within the higher education sector, National Union of Students and
government policy to ensure elected officers/line manager are well informed.

Read student staff liaison minutes and gather themes to bring to the attention of the
elected officers.

Carry out the administration for demographic processes i.e. elections, meeting
arrangements and support.

Support the elected officers and other student leaders when preparing for meetings,
including training, chairing etc.

Create and maintain networks with partners i.e. University staff, local community and
other Students’ Union staff, in support of the “student voice”.

Support elected officers and CSU staff in the day-to-day operations of a busy office.

Effectively market and promote student engagement/student voice activities, networks
and events i.e. Annual General Meeting

Prepare annual reports on the level of student engagement, in line with the strategic plan
objectives.

Ensure you aspire to the highest standards of service delivery at all times.
GENERAL

Respect the democratic structure of the Students’ Union at all times. The post holder will
be expected to work closely with elected officers of the Students’ Union.

Ensure the delivery of a positive image of the Students’ Union, both internally and
externally by displaying high standards of professionalism, politeness, conduct and
service.

Shall be responsible for the overall cleanliness and security of their working area.

To operate the IT systems and related software used by the Union.

Ensure that ultra vires is not committed by any individual or group of members (staff
and/or student), ensuring that the Students’ Union operates within the legislation set out in
the Education Act 1994.

Shall abide by all policies and procedures as laid out in the Articles of Association of
Chester Students’ Union.

Shall undertake duties and responsibilities commensurate with this position as may be
determined by the needs of the Union through the Trustee Board via your line manager.

It is important to be aware that the Students’ Union expects all staff to participate in, and
take ownership of, their induction, personal development plan, departmental staff
meetings and be responsible for undertaking duties with full regard for others within the
conditions of employment detailed in the Staff Handbook.

Shall keep accurate records of hours worked, furnishing your line manager with completed
time sheets on a monthly basis for authorisation.

A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events and
activities throughout the year eg. elections, open days, freshers’ week and sustainable
activities.
