I AM
the Light of the World
John 8:12
Pastor Keone
John 8:12
12 When
Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I
am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will
never walk in darkness, but will have the light of
life."
“I am the light of the world.”
*John 8:13
The Pharisees challenged him, "Here
you are, appearing as your own witness; your
testimony is not valid."
*John 8:28
13
28 So Jesus said, "When you have
lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I
am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on
my own but speak just what the Father has taught
me.
Testing the validity of Jesus claim (vv. 13-30)
*Romans 1:3-4
regarding his Son, who as to his human
nature was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the
Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of
God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our
Lord.

*1 Corinthians 15:3-7
For I delivered to you as of first
importance what I also received, that Christ died for our
sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried,
and that He was raised on the third day according to the
Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the
twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred
brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but
some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James,
then to all the apostles;

“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness…”
*John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed
him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you
are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the
truth, and the truth will set you free."
Two fold thrust:
*Followership
*Freedom
31
“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness…”
*John 8:33-36 33 They answered him, "We are
Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves
of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set
free?" 34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth,
everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave
has no permanent place in the family, but a son
belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free,
you will be free indeed.
Freedom from sin allows one to have a permanent
place in the family of God.
“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness…”
*John 8:42

*John 8:47

Jesus said to them, "If God were
your Father, you would love me, for I came from
God and now am here. I have not come on my own;
but he sent me.
He who belongs to God hears what
God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do
not belong to God."
Followership: Who we love and obey shows who we
follow.
“…but will have the light of life.”
*John 8:51

*John 8:56

I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps
my word, he will never see death.
Your father Abraham rejoiced at the
thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.
Instead of the gloom of hopelessness and sorrow
associated with darkness, there will be an air of
hope, rejoicing and gladness.
Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill
cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp
and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its
stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and praise your
Father in heaven.
