(Ps 57:3) • Lovingkindness “慈愛” (ds,x, , checed) • Truth “誠實/真理” (tm,a/, 'emeth) • A. God treats us with Truth(tm,a/, 'emeth) • 37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." 38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. (John 18:37-38) • “How much does truth sell?” “Can it feed you?” • 20For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2Cor 1:20) • God cannot go against the truth. • B. God treats us with Lovingkindness (ds,x,, checed) /covenantal love. • 1. These two parties are God and his people. • 2. A biblical illustration—husband and wife. • 3. Because of this relationship, God loves his people in a very special way—He gives and He demands. I. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the earth. 10And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign LORD? 20"What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Sovereign LORD. (2Sam 7:18-20) • Start from your tithing • 10Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. II. To the Faithful, God shows himself faithful • 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." 22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: II. To the Faithful, God shows himself faithful • 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us." 24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. (Matt 1:20-21) Conclusion • Ponder on the lives of Abraham and David • Know that the Lord is of lovingkindness and of truth.
