Research in Community Health Centers Why is this important? • There are more than 1300 community health centers across U.S. and its Territories. • CHCs serve more than 23 million patients in more than 9,000 locations • CHCs patients are typically underserved consisting primarily of uninsured or underinsured, and low income individuals. • CHCs will not turn anyone away because they cannot pay. A sliding fee scale is available for those who do not have the means to pay their bill. • Yet, CHC’s are expected to provide high quality of services Research in Community Health Centers Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) receive funding and other resources from: • Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) in accordance with section 330 of a congressional mandate • Revenue from patient encounters including: Research in Community Health Centers – Medicaid and Medicare – Insurance payments – And, private payments – Additional funding and other supporting resources are obtained by competing and winning • Federal and state grant opportunities • Private foundations, i.e. RWJF, Kresge Foundation, etc. • Corporate grants, I.e.
