In your NC textbook, read pages 285-289.
(Don't read Cherokee ordered to leave or The Trail of Tears)
Create a graphic organizer that works for you to organize notes you take as you read.
REMEMBER - You can't take notes on your first read!!!! How do you know what is important?
Your graphic organizer should have 6 sections
Isolation, education, economy, slavery, farm conditions, government
Problems in NC Presentation
Your group will create a poster and presentation on one of the 6 problems in NC
You will select roles and write them on the back of the poster.
Everyone is a researcher, then choose a presenter, illustrator, scribe, and quality control.
You poster must have:
2 bulleted examples from the text, 1 inferred example from group discussion,
visually
appealing and easy to read and understand (minimum 2 visual representations), and one way
your group would seek to reform cause for decline
Your presentation to the class can be no longer than 2 minutes, concise, speak clearly, and be
able to answer questions.

Civic Engagement - What are some examples??
Civic engagement can take many forms, from individual voluntarism to organizational involvement to
electoral participation. It can include efforts to directly address an issue, work with others in a community to solve
a problem or interact with the institutions of representative democracy. Civic engagement encompasses a range
of specific activities such as working in a soup kitchen, serving on a neighborhood association, writing a letter to
an elected official or voting. Indeed, an underlying principal of our approach is that an engaged citizen should
have the ability, agency and opportunity to move comfortably among these various types of civic acts.
