Street Art Walk Information
The Street Art Walk is not a legal wall to paint. The site is designed to showcase community murals or the
work of senior individual artists. Only artists or community groups with an Approval Permit from Street Art
Walk’s Management Team may paint. A permit is only valid for the mural site listed on the permit and
during the dates listed on the permit. Painting without a permit, outside of the designated mural site’s
demarcation lines, or painting outside the dates specified in the permit is to considered illegal and may be
reported to Police.

Approval Process
Once this Application to Paint is received, Street Art Walk Management will review the application. If the
application is deemed a suitable and desirable, a curatorial and safety assessment will be undertaken. In
some cases the Project Management Team may request additional information from the artist. In most
cases applications will be processed within one week.
If the application is successful the Street Art Walk Management will issue the artist an Approval Permit.
Artists with Permits will be taken through safety procedures and both the Police and the Blue Mountains
City Council will be notified on your behalf.
Street Art Walk Management reserves the ability not to grant permits if:
 If Street Art Walk Management key project staff are unavailable for a short period of time, due to leave
or any other reason.


You must be 18 years or over to apply. For individuals under the age of 18, please contact SAMA
directly for more information regarding how to paint at the Street Art Walk.
You must complete an Application to Paint Form and be issued with a signed Approval Permit prior
to painting a mural.
Signing the application form verifies that artist/s and/or community group/s agree to comply with all
terms and conditions stated on this form and the Approval Permit.
Unauthorised murals may be removed and vandalism may be reported to Police.
Mural art sites may be for the creation of a piece of artwork in a street art or graffiti style.
Work that has broad appeal and displays advanced technical skill is encouraged
Offensive work is not permitted. Offensive means any material that most would consider racist, sexist,
contains crude language, depicts highly sexual or violent images, or contains a person’s details.
Offensive work will be removed as soon as possible.
Advertising murals are not permitted. Please note: placing personal or the organisation’s website or
blog address in the mural is appropriate.
Street Art Walk Management reserves the right to designate the size and position of an applicants
proposed art work.
Street Art Walk Management reserves the right to withdraw an issued permit or make changes to
these guidelines at any time.
Terms of Use
1.
In consideration of the Street Art Walk Project Management Team (represented by Mountains Youth
Services Team), granting this application, you agree Mountains Youth Services Team is not liable or
responsible for any claims: by you arising from the exercise of your rights under this permit; by you in
connection with being permitted to paint a mural at the relevant site; or, any damage to you, the mural or
anything – whether or not the claim was due in whole or in part to Mountains Youth Services Team’s
negligence. You indemnify Mountains Youth Services Team against: all losses incurred by Mountains Youth
Services Team; all liabilities incurred by Mountains Youth Services Team; and, all legal costs (on a solicitor
and own client or full indemnity basis) and other expenses incurred by Mountains Youth Services Team in
connection with any demand or proceeding. You consent to the doing of any acts or making of any
omissions by us, our employees, agents, licensees and assigns that infringe your moral rights [as outlined in
Part IX of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth)] including not naming you as author of any work or amending or
modifying (whether by changing, adding to or deleting/removing any or all parts of the work).

The artist retains copyright over their original image and gives Mountains Youth Services Team permission
to reproduce the artist’s image and issue 3rd party licensing agreements, free of charge, for the purpose of
promotion or otherwise. MYST must still gain permission from the artist to sell any product that uses an
artist’s image.

You must not commence work until in possession of a permit. You must carry the permit letter at all times
when painting.
4.
You must meet a Mountains Youth Services Team Representative on site prior to commencement to confirm
site allocation and safety precautions.
5.
You must not paint in any adverse weather conditions, such as high winds, if it is likely to affect people’s
safety or present a risk to property, such as paint overspray onto nearby vehicles.
6.
You must follow the Street Art Walk’s Detail Traffic and Pedestrian Management Plan, which includes
allowing traffic and pedestrians to safely pass by the mural, erecting signage and barricading off your
working area. Witches hats, tape and barriers are appropriate means to secure your working site.
7.
You must provide and use your own safety mask, water and sun protection.
8.
Platforms used to reach upper wall areas must be secure. If a cherry picker is in use the operator must hold
all relevant qualifications/training to operate the machine.
9.
You must manage the mural site in a safe and orderly manner. When vacated you must leave it in a clean
and tidy condition.
10. Costs related to the development of the artwork at the site will be borne by the aerosol artist(s).
11. You must comply with instruction from Mountains Youth Services Team employees, the Police Department
and other public authorities.
12. Work must commence and be completed within two months of approval. Specific dates will be listed on the
permit. Extensions may be granted in special circumstances. Artists must apply for an extension with an
explanation of the reasons.
13. Artists must keep noise level at an appropriate level seeing that business and residents are in the vicinity.
