The Importance of Inter-religious
Dialogue
 “Ignorance breeds prejudice, bigotry and hostility.”
 Knowledge about others forms security and respect for
one another.
 Different people have different responsibilities to their
faith.
 They must be able to recognize this and be tolerant and
respectful
 To be true to their faith, people must inform others and
strive to obtain their values together.
 There is never a time when someone will be surrounded
only by people of their religion.

peoples views on faith.

 Monotheistic
Judaism = YHWH, Christianity = Trinity, Islam = Allah
All believe in the Lord of Creation.
 Based on regular prayer and the practice of
charity.
 All have set laws.
 All have foundational scriptures.

Muslims, it is important to promote peace.
Judaism-Christianity
The background of Judaism is crucial for
the understanding of Christianity and vice
versa.
Rabbinic Judaism was created and influenced
after Christianity.
Both stem from the revelation at Mt. Sinai
Both aware of the divine presence.
Christianity-Islam
Muslims are more devout to the Qur’an
whereas Christians are not as affluent with
their texts.
Islam have set daily rituals whereas
Christians have Mass once a week.
During the revelation, Jesus will appear
and be the one to judge.
The Crusades 1095-1291
 A series of religious wars
 Christians persecuted nonChristians (Jews & Muslims)
 The goal was to recapture
Jerusalem and the sacred Holy
Land from Muslim rule and
Antioch, which was the first
Christian City.
 As a result, the Christians
realized that what they did was
wrong and the Pope gave a
public apology.
Islam-Judaism
Belief in the some of the same prophets:
Abraham, Moses, etc.
Actions revolve around the law
Both of their laws operate on assumption
that mingling of the sexes will destroy
social order
The communities structure their daily lives so
that men and women are separate from one
another.
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
 Israeli-Palestinian conflict
is an ongoing dispute
between two peoples,
Jewish Israelis and Arab
Palestinians
 Both claim the right to
sovereignty over the Land
of Israel/Palestine in
whole or in part
