1. http://quizlet.com/
Quizlet is the largest flash cards and study games website with over 5 million free sets of
flashcards covering every possible subject. It's the best place to play educational games, memorize
vocabulary and study online.

The way I would use this web 2.0 in my classroom is by creating flashcards in the topic to review for the test.
We can do speed drills and fun reviews for the upcoming test and quizzes.
2. http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/default.aspx
Graphs and charts are great because they communicate information visually. For this reason, graphs are
often used in newspapers, magazines and businesses around the world.
NCES constantly uses graphs and charts in our publications and on the web. Sometimes, complicated
information is difficult to understand and needs an illustration. Graphs or charts can help impress
people by getting your point across quickly and visually.
Here you will find five different graphs and charts for you to consider. Not sure about which graph
to use? Confused between bar graphs and pie charts? Read our graphic tutorial.

I would use this site to reinforce the concept of choosing the proper graph for the data you have been given.
Many students do not understand how to read graphs and how to pull out the important information. The
more practice they have at this skill the better they will get at reading and interpret ting graphs.
3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/maths/shape_space/
Shape, space & measures: Find out about angles, lines and graphs. Important shapes and useful
everyday measurements are also covered.

There are many ways to use this site. Geometry is a complex topic for sixth graders and it has
moved beyond the “shapes” of elementary school. This site will give more examples and more
practice on angles and everyday measurement.
4. http://www.edheads.org/
Simple Machines Activities:
Learn about simple and compound machines while you explore the House and Tool Shed!

This is great to use in class to have students think outside the box. With them building
machines they can better read into an open ended math problem and come up with new ways
to solve. This is a site that will develop a deeper learning skill.
5. http://labyrinth.thinkport.org/www/
Your beloved pet's gone missing and you've got to find it - but how? Before you know it, you're dropped into
a strange (and extremely smelly) world where your only friend is a mysterious bean-loving girl with wings.
She says there are others ... Others? Other pets? Well, there sure are plenty of monsters. They're all over
the place, stinking up the joint and forcing you to do crazy jobs - you have to make pet food out of carrots
and eyeballs? ICK! How in the world can any of this help you find your pet? And can you come to its rescue
... before it's too late?
There's only one way to find out ...

Once again this site develops a logical thinking skill that cannot be taught but can be experienced and
learned with the success of playing “thinking” games such as is found at this site.
6.
http://www.piratenpad.de/
A web based word processor that allows pupils and teachers to work together in real time. Each
editor is in a different color. This is an alternative to ether pad.

I would use this at a station and have each student solve a multi-step problem. Each person will
be completing the problem or adding to the problem in their own color. This will show not only
multiple ways to solve a problem but can also encourage students to share their mathematical
ideas with others knowing they are not always “wrong”!
7. http://www.school-clip-art.com/
Free Clip Art Images For Teachers and Students

I would have students create word problems that include at least three clip art photos. After
each class turns in the project… I will have many word problems to use on the test quiz or as
warm ups and students will recognized their work and feel proud.
8. http://www.brainflips.com/home.html BrainFlips is a webtool that offers user-friendly, effective
flashcards for students and self-motivated learners of all ages and academic levels. BrainFlips offers
lots of great features including full multimedia flashcards, the ability to create study groups, wiki
flashcard sets, and more. BrainFlips looks cool and is easy to use.

You can never have too many sites for flash cards. I will use this for PSSA vocabulary as well as
times tables, fractions to decimals and fractions to percents. Students will be able to create their own
cards to play. This is learning twice.
9. http://www.brainpop.com/ One of the most popular sites for students on the web, Brain Pop uses
animations and brief interactive games to teach students about a wide-variety of topics. The same site is
available in Spanish as well. Teachers might be able to find useful video segments or games for their students
to practice skills with. There is a fee to access all the content on the website.
* I will use this site for extra practice of a skill. There are more than enough activities that an extra fee will
not be required to enhance the learning of topics covered.
10.http://download.cnet.com/Cool-Timer/3000-2350_4-10062255.html
This completely free program is a simple but effective countdown timer that is extremely easy to use.
An alarm sounds to indicate that a specified time period has ended. Any wav, mp3, or midi file can be
used as the alarm. You can watch the countdown from a window on your screen; or the program can
be minimized to the system tray while counting down.
* Use the timer in mad math minutes as warm ups, or independent work timer. This is just a fun way
to see time fly when completing a math task.
11.http://www.curriculumbits.com/
Curriculum Bits is a website that offers free access to a growing range of interactive multimedia elearning resources. The site contains games, quizzes, animations and videos in a variety of subjects.
The site is geared at students aged 11 to 16. This is a well designed site that is engaging and can be
used as supplement or review material for many students.

These will be great warm up sites or independent computer station work. Student will enjoy getting
warm up that are not always the same and seeing different formats of questions. This will be a nice
site to change up a regular warm up from the textbook..
12. http://dep.disney.go.com/
Edu-Station is an educational website that is owned and operated by Mickey Mouse, I mean Disney.
This is a nice web resource that offers a lot of help to teachers and gives lesson ideas, activities, as
well as many forum-like discussions of educational practice.

This is another site I would use as a warm up or independent computer work station. Students will
love to see Mickey Mouse in Math class. Who doesn’t love the mouse?
13. http://www.encalc.com/
Encalc is an online scientific calculator and graphing calculator. Key features include the ability to
handle units and dimensional analysis, to perform symbolic algebra and calculus, to define variables,
and to lookup values from its large database of physical constants. A new feature allows Encalc to
become a graphing calculator, but this feature is only available in browsers other than IE. This no frills
program gets the job done, and also allows teachers to embed the engine on their class or school
websites.

I would use this or allow my advanced kids to use this and see if they could create formulas to solve
on this on-line calculator. This site is more advanced but will create a deeper level of learner and
challenge the higher learner.
14. http://hoodamath.com/
Hooda Math believes in math learning through play. Mr. Edlavitch credits board and card
games for his early enjoyment of mathematics. Hooda Math believes free online math
games can do the same for students today.
Teachers Hooda Math can be used in a number of ways. Our online math games can be
used for computer lab activities with/without our free math worksheets. Our math games
can also be used with your interactive whiteboards, check out our Interactive White
Board Games page. Middle and Highschool students can do Math Movie projects with
xtranormal.com and submit them to us for publication. A classroom teacher favorite is
our free online math tool, Math Timed Tests that emails individual reports back to
teachers and students.

The detailed description tells all the ways I can use this is my classroom. The students
will enjoy the activity and I will enjoy the fact that they are practicing a math skill
required to be proficient on the PSSA and in sixth grade.
15. http://www.ixl.com/?gclid=CJuPod3apKkCFYje4AodDUjNuA
IXL's math skills are aligned to the 2010 Common Core State Standards, the 2006
Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards for Kindergarten, the 2005 Pennsylvania Early
Learning Standards for Pre-Kindergarten, and the 2005 Pennsylvania Assessment Anchors,
providing comprehensive preparation for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment
(PSSA). With IXL's state standards alignments, you can easily find unlimited practice
problems specifically tailored to each required standard. Even better, IXL automatically
tracks student progress and displays proficiency scores in the state standards reports. These
reports allow you to quickly evaluate student aptitude and identify trouble spots.

I will definitely use this as a warm up on the promethean board. The students will write
the problems in their notebook and solve and give an explanation of why they believe
they are correct. Then one person will go to the board and give the correct answers. We
will view the answer given and explain on the site together and compare how close our
answer was to the answer/explanation give. This is great practice for open-ended
questions and explaining your answer.
