These items will NOT be supplied at the District or State level. The contestant will need to furnish all needed items for their contest at the District Conference and at the State Conference. 2016 Men’s Haircutting Written Test - 25 Questions Both Men’s Haircuts 40 Minutes Each Blow Dry Style 30 Minutes Full Details in SkillsUSA Texas Technical Standards at www.skillsusatx.org Cosmetology Contestant will perform 2 women’s haircuts and one male haircut. Pictures of each haircut are on the next 3 slides. They will also perform an updo style on a long haired mannequin. A written and oral test will be administered. Written test will consist of 25 questions from Milady Standard Cosmetology 2012. Oral test will be a salon appointment phone call scenario. All technical standards will be followed. Women’s Layer Cut Women’s 90 Degree Uniform Layer (90-Degree) Haircut Procedure Contestants must be able to duplicate a uniform layer (90-degree) haircut and design selected by the National Tech Committee. Contestant will style the hair with blow dryer and fingers only. Steps must be followed in the exact order. Please also refer to the April 15th SkillsUSA Standards Update. a. Time allotted - 45 minutes b. 200 possible points - cut and blow dry will be scored c. Tools assembled and station prepared d. Create a four-section parting e. Drop a hairline (perimeter) guide f. Establish the design length around the back perimeter g. Establish the design length around the front perimeter h. Establish the interior guide at the top of the head (apex, crown) i. Continue cutting guideline to front hairline j. Continue cutting guideline from crown to nape k. Use vertical partings to blend top guide to design line l. Maintain a constant 90-degree elevation throughout the procedure m. Follow a traveling guide to maintain uniformly layered lengths n. Perform a cross check of procedure for accuracy o. Check perimeter guideline and finish as necessary p. Finished cut is uniformly blended q. Blow hair dry to frame face r. Clean and organize station Men’s Haircut Esthetics 2016 theme is “What Face is your State?” Contestant will preform a basic facial, daytime make up application and fantasy makeup application. Written Exam over all areas of skin care and makeup Oral Exam - Customer Service Scenario used in Cosmetology Contest. **Sheets will NOT be required for the District 5 Contest Nail Care Contestants must bring a model for the competition. Model must be a paid SkillsUSA Member and registered for the contest as a model. Student will preform Basic Pedicure on one foot. One hand of sculptured nails utilizing 2 colors (ex. pink & white) One hand of light cured gel nails with a tip. Sculptured nails will be finished by polishing with red polish. Flat nail art on the gel nails hand. Written Exam & Oral Exam Prohibited items: a. Nail art accessories: gems, skins, feathers, rhinestones, glitters, threads, fabrics, foils, beads, tapes, jewelry, air brushing, decals/stencils or cast moldings b. Free-edge or 1⁄2 well tips c. Tip blenders d. Top coats or base coats. Note: Top coat or sealer is allowed for nail art application only e. Electric files/drills f.
