PRODUCT PROTECTION



When a product is invented the person or
company will apply for a patent.
Patents are licenses assigned by the government
to protect the inventor from someone else copying
their product.
The US Patent Agency keeps track of all new
ideas and inventions.


has educational material for students.
Inventnow is a game for students to use to invent
a product and start the patent application.

TEXAS PAPER TOWEL HOLDER


All jigs, fixtures and patterns will be provided by
the teacher.
Base is made from a 1 X 10 pine board, 1”, 3/8”
and ¼” dowels, a wood screw and 4 rubber
bumpers / felt pads.


TEXAS BASE
Cut base to 9 1/2” x 9 1/2” square size using
radial arm saw.
Use oversized pattern to draw layout, cap and
hole placement on base.
Use 2” hole saw to cut out cap.
Cut out shape on band saw or scroll saw.
Drill holes in base using drill press.
Attach finishing jig to bottom of base with screws.
Use router with a straight bit to cut base to final
size.
Remove jig from base and route the top edge with a
round over bit.


Drill 3/8” hole 3/8” deep for tear bar as marked.
Drill 1/8” hole in bottom center of 1” hole.
Sand surface with 120 grit sandpaper.
Sand surface with 220 grit sandpaper.

POST
Cut 1” dowel to 10” length using the fixture.
Drill ¼” hole ¾” deep in center of one end of the
post using fixture.
Sand post with 120 grit sandpaper.

TEAR BAR



Cut 3/8” dowel to 6 ½” length using fixture.
Sand dowel with 120 grit sandpaper.
Sand dowel with 220 grit sandpaper.


CAP
Using jig to hold cap, sand edges using disk
sander.
Use the non slip router pad to hold the cap and
rout both edges using a router and round over bit
on.
Sand cap with 120 grit sand paper.
Sand cap with 220 grit sand paper.
Cut 1/4” dowel to 1 ½” length using
fixture.
Glue into hole in center of cap.


ASSEMBLY
Mount rubber bumpers or felt pads to cover the
holes on bottom of base made when attaching
finish jig.
Glue post into 1” hole on base.
Install screw into 1/8” hole from underneath side.
Glue tear bar into 3/8” hole in base.
Allow glue to dry.
Inspect and sand again if necessary.
Finish project using approved finish materials.

