Second Semester Book Assignment Over the course of the next month, you will be asked to read the book that you have chosen. Each book is different in length, topic, and application. However, I feel that each book that you have the option of choosing is quality and interesting in their own right and should be examined carefully and thoroughly in order to get the most out of it. The books you may choose from are: The Invisible Gorilla by Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simons Mindset by Carol Dweck The Mind’s Eye by Oliver Sacks The Naked Woman Who Stood on Her Head: A Psychiatrist’s Stories of His Most Bizarre Cases by Gary W. Small Assignment Part One: After you read your book, which varies in length depending on the book you have chosen, you are to write a summary of the book. You will want to summarize key points throughout the book and overarching psychological themes that are seen throughout. Also, you will want to apply various aspects of your book to your own life, either how it is similar or different than your own experiences. This should be 6 pages, which does not include a title page or bibliography. Keep in mind that it is to be written in APA style, which means it needs a running header. This also means that an unnecessary writing can be done away with and get straight to the point. (100 points) Part Two: Your books examine a different topic or differing viewpoints. You have the option of completing this portion of the assignment either by yourself or with a partner from either class. Your assignment is to creatively discuss one chapter from the book you (and your partner) chose to read. The goal of your visual display is not only to inform about the book, but attempt to sell the book to those viewing the display. You will want to highlight some key ideas from the book and your own thoughts on the book. Your grade will be based on creativity and information. (50 points) Due Dates: Summaries: March 12th, 2012 Visual Display: March 16th, 2012 Please Note: These assignments will not be accepted late. They must be turned in (handed) to me in class on said due dates. If we are not in school on the due dates because of weather, then they are to be turned in on the next day we are in class.
