Day 1:
 Introductory meeting with Host Institution contact person
 Campus tour and orientation
 Meeting and lunch with the Directors of the Pre-award and Post-award teams
from the central research management office
 Afternoon meeting with the Pre-award Director
 Afternoon meeting with Pre-award staff
Day 2:
 Attend the weekly Pre-award staff meeting
 Meeting with an individual pre-award staff regarding the proposal and award
processes
 Demonstration of the Electronic Research Administration’s systems
Day 3:
 Meeting with the director of technology transfer to discuss IP management,
technology transfer, and start-ups
 Meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Research on the university’s overall
research strategy
Day 4:
 Attend weekly meeting of the Electronic Research Administration team
 Meeting with the School of __________’s research office to discuss faculty
support through the processes of proposal development, proposal submission,
project management, and closeout
Day 5:
 Meeting with a departmental manager in the Department of _______ to discuss
faculty support at the departmental level
 Tour of the center for design and entrepreneurship

Day 6:
 Check in meeting with the Host Institution contact person
 Meeting with the Post-award Director to discuss an overview of post-award
functions
 Meeting with Post-award staff regarding the responsibilities of post-award
staff, including financial management, cost accounting, reporting, closeout,
and audits.
 Meeting with audit staff to understand the common areas that are scrutinized
during a grant audit and an overall audit
Day 7:
 Meeting with a departmental manager in the Department of _______ to discuss
faculty support at the departmental level
 Tour of the Center for _________ Research
Day 8:
 Meeting with research administration training director to discuss training for
faculty and staff and communication methods to the research community.
 Meeting with the corporate / industrial contracting officer to discuss research
collaborations with industry
Day 9:
 Meeting with Chief Administrative Officer to understand research from the
“business side”
 Meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Government Relations to understand the
impact of research administration in government relations
Day 10:
 Meet with the Dean of the College of _______, which has a number of global
collaborations
 The Fellow provides a presentation on his or her own institution’s research
administrator processes
 Cultural visit to local sites

Additional options:
 Meeting with the university foundation
 The Fellow arranges for a meeting between his or her institution’s faculty and
the host institution’s faculty members
 The Fellow meets with faculty that have existing collaborations with his or her
institution
 Meeting with research offices in other local universities / research institutes
 Meeting with subaward management staff, especially to discuss monitoring of
foreign subawardees
 Meeting with the Internal Review Board (IRB) to discuss human subject
research and animal research protocol processes
 Meeting with the research compliance office
