Print concept is one of the most important factors for identifying the
comprehension of the students in print. This essay will discuss the definition
of the concept about print, the purpose and the importance of it and how to
use the concept about print task.
Print concept is the students’ knowledge about written language. Teacher
uses print concept task to discover the student’s ability in writing concepts.
This strategy used for the students between five and seven years old, and
sometimes outside those age limits (Clay.M,2007). For example, the
students should identify the letters, the capital letters, small letters,
punctuations and other print concepts from the text. This task helps the
students to clarify and learn about print concept.
The importance of the print about concept is help the teacher to know the
students levels about print and try to improve it. Furthermore, it helps the
teacher to identify the students need in concepts of prints (Concepts About
Print. n.d)
The goal of print rich is to help the teachers to know what their students are
attending to in print and what still needs to be learned. From this task the
teacher will able to notice the strength and the weakness of the students in
the print, so it helps the teacher to focus in her or his teaching points in
literacy to construct the students comprehension in the prints concept
(Concepts About Print Assessment,n.d). After teacher made this task for the
student she or he should do an appropriate lesson plan to cover the weakness
points of the students understanding in print concept, and this way will help
the students to improve their weakness in the print concept and develop the
student’s understanding.

Concept about print is individual task for the students, at the first teacher
should sits the students close to her. Secondly, she should tell the students
that they will read the story together. The story should include clear print
and illustration, spacing between the words, simple words such as (I, was,
and etc), and punctuation like (question mark, full stop etc). Thirdly, before
the teacher start the task she should has concepts about print score sheet, this
sheet include four column the first column is the page of the story the second
column is the score the third column is the item and the forth column is the
comment. The teacher evaluates the students about concepts about print
from asking him questions. Some of these questions are where is the front of
the book? Where does the story start? Where do I start reading and where do
I go after that? What is a letter? What is a word? (Concepts About Print
Assessment,n.d).
This approach helps the teacher to check the student’s awareness about the
print and their understanding of the concept about the print. Furthermore, it
helps the teacher to know the students who need help in it, so teacher will try
to improve it for them.
Teacher can develop the concepts about the prints for the students by trying
to expose the students to wide number of texts ( Murray. L, n.d). Moreover,
teacher could use shared reading strategy to develop the understanding of the
concepts about the print by pointing to the punctuations, letters and the
words for the students (Concepts About Print Assessment,n.d).
To sum up, teacher could use this approach to identify the weakness and the
strength of the concept about the print for the students. Furthermore, this
strategy helps to develop the literacy for the students.
