The setting was in the woods, where the owl was. Mrs. Frisby Told the owl about Timothy’s sickness, and about moving day. At first he only told her that either Timothy could die himself, or Mrs. Frisby’s family can die together. But when, Mrs. Frisby told the owl her name, he remembered her husband. He was an admirer to her husband, even though he has never met him in person! Then he told her a secret; to go to ‘the rats’! Mrs. Frisby told the owl her problem. The owl couldn’t help at first, but then he told Mrs. Frisby a secret; to go to ‘the rats’! Chapter 9: “The Rosebush.” Chapter 10: “Brutes” The setting was on the way back home from the forest. Also, at home and by the rosebush. The setting was in the rosebush where the rats were. Mrs. Frisby went back home and heard the children talking about how worried they were. So she climbed the tree and tried looking for a pathway until she would fine one. She found it finally, and saw the biggest rat she has ever seen standing by the entrance. The rat standing by the entrance was called Brutes. Brutus is a young looking, muscular, and over-sized rat with bright eyes. Brutes did not let Mrs. Frisby in, so Mrs. Frisby decided to leave. On the way out she saw Mr. Ages in surprise. She told Mr. Ages her story about Timothy and the crow and owl. Mr. Ages understood what it was like so went into the rosebush with Mrs. Frisby. When they got in, Brutes new her husband and let her in. She went to the rats as the owl told her. So she climbed the rosebush and tried looking for a pathway. When she finally found it, she saw the biggest rat she has ever seen standing by the entrance. Mrs. Frisby saw a rat standing by the entrance that did not let her in, so she decided to leave. On the way out she saw Mr. Ages, so she told` him her story and he went in with her. Brutes then called Justin and let Mrs. Frisby in when Mr. Ages told the rats about Jonathon Frisby. Chapter 11: “In the library” The setting was in the Rosebush. The rosebush had an elevator, electricity, lights, glass stained windows, office, and lots more. Then the setting was in the library, where people learn to read. Most of ‘The rats’ got to know Mrs. Frisby. Justin goes with Mrs. Frisby and Mr. Ages to the elevator then Justin takes Mrs. Frisby to the library. Mrs. Frisby stays there sitting on a table with little mice books and suddenly notices on the board it says: THE PLAN OF NIHM. And a schedule. Justin took Mrs. Frisby to the library. Mrs. Frisby looked around and saw “The plan of Nihm” on the board, and a schedule. Chapter 12: “Isabella” The setting was in the library, in the rosebush, where the rats lived. Mrs. Frisby noticed a small, pretty young girl (her name was Isabella) holding papers coming in the library, she saw Mrs. Frisby and was scared/ she did not know why or how Mrs. Frisby was here. She thought she was a spy at first but then Mrs. Frisby explained to her. Then Mrs. Frisby asked Isabella about ‘the plan’ and what Nihm was, and Isabella told her that… the rats came from a city named Nihm. Isabella came in the library and was scared of Mrs. Frisby. She asked who she was and Mrs. Frisby explained. Then Mrs. Frisby asked questions the plan, and what Nihm was, while Isabella answered them. Chapter 13: “A powder for Dragon” The setting was in the library in the Rosebush with chairs and tables. The rats came from the meeting. They then talked about how they will move Mrs. Frisby’s house without Dragon seeing them. They told Mrs. Frisby about a powder that will make Dragon sleepy. They had a problem though; Mr. Ages is the one who puts the powder in Dragon’s plate, but he cannot do it because he had a problem with his leg. And Justin cannot do it because he was too big. So Mrs. Frisby decided that; if Mr. Ages would risk doing something for Mrs. Frisby, then Mrs. Frisby should risk doing it for her children. So Mrs. Frisby had to do it. The rats told Mrs. Frisby about a powder that will make dragon sleepy, so they could move her house. But Mr. Ages is the one who puts the powder, and he had something wrong with his leg. Justin could not do it (he was too big). So Mrs. Frisby decided to do the job instead. Chapter 14: “The Marketplace” The setting was in the library while Nicodemus was telling the story. The story’s setting was in the marketplace. Nicodemus was telling a story… The rats would always go to a place where they would always find food to steel. The place was called the ‘Marketplace’. (It was where the humans go to buy food.) Sometimes the kids would play hide and seek in the boxes, they would climb on walls, and even swim in the fountain. One evening, Nicodemus and Jenner (an old friend of Nicodemus) went to the market place. When they were there the humans saw them, then started chasing them. Nicodemus and Jenner then got split up and put into separate cages with other unknown rats. The cages were then put into a white truck with NIHM on it. The rats always would go to the market place to steel food. Nicodemus and Jenner went to the marketplace one evening. The humans saw them. They started chasing them, then Jenner and Nicodemus got split up and put into separate cages with other rats. They were next put into white trucks with NIHM on it. Chapter 15: “In the cage” The setting was in a dark cage, in a white truck. Also in the laboratory, a long white room, In a long building made out of white cement and glass. In the cage, Nicodemus heard Jenner’s voice. The truck then stopped, and the doors opened. Then 3 men came out. They counted how many rats there were, and then wheeled them into a tall building. The rats stayed in the cages for quite a long time, and were well fed. One day a man and two other students came to the laboratory and tied each rat with a ribbon, then injected a needle into them. This kept happening often, maybe twice a week. Nicodemus did not know why… Chapter 16: “ The Maze” The setting was in the laboratory in the tall building. Nicodemus finally understood why the humans were injecting them; They wanted to see if the injections made them learn more and faster. Then one of the students took Nicodemus’ cage and carried it to another room. He opened the door cage, and Nicodemus was free. But whenever Nicodemus notices an escape whole, he gets an electric shock. Nicodemus finds out the humans were testing him the whole time, and were recording how much it took! Nicodemus also finds out he was in a maze the whole time. There were The truck stopped. They saw a long building, and were wheeled into it. The rats were put into the laboratory, a long white room, and were injected every week by humans. Nicodemus thought the humans let him free. But whenever he tried to escape, he would get an electric shock. He then finds out the humans were testing him, and he was in a maze the whole time. Then one day, a young rat named Justin told Nicodemus about his plan. Justin tried it, but it did not Chapter 17: “ A lesson in reading.” The setting was in the laboratory. many more activities with time recorded. Nicodemus just wanted to escape from the sewer to go home to see his family. He knew it was no use, but one rat was still trying it. His name was Justin. He was telling Nicodemus about how he would escape. Justin Tried it, and the humans did not know he was trying to escape, they thought he learned more by the look of it. work. The humans just thought that he was learning faster. Justin was not able to escape that year. But he still learned lots. The humans were planning a paper about the rats, to be published in a scientific journal. The training began after all the hard work at the shape recognition that was mentioned before. But this time, they used sounds and shapes, along with pictures. E.g.: First there was a picture of a rat that everyone recognized, then one of the student’s voice came on. Then the rat picture disappeared and another appeared…. They were teaching the rats how to read. The rats started to recognize the symbols, and communicate easier. The rats understood very clearly, but I don’t think the man knew they did. He wanted The humans taught the rats how to read. And step-bystep the rats were able to recognize the symbols, and communicate easier. One day, Justin announced he was going to get out. There was a printed strip that said: To release door, pull knob forward and slide right. Justin tried it after the humans left, and it actually worked. Nicodemus wanted to go with Justin, but if Chapter 18: “ The Air Ducts.” The Setting is in the laboratory and in the white, tall building. his experiment to be successful. Then one day, Justin announced he was going to get out of the cage and wander around a bit. But how? There was a printed strip that said: To release door, pull knob forward and slide right. Justin tried it after the humans left, and it actually worked. Nicodemus wanted to go with Justin, but if something went wrong, the humans might put other locks, and the rats would never be able to escape again. something went wrong, the humans might put other locks, and the rats would never be able to escape again. Justin Finds a way to escape; he explains it to Nicodemus & the rest of the rats. Justin and 2 others were chosen as the explorers. When they’re out exploring, Justin goes to the machine. The machine starts to make a loud sound and starts blowing lots of air. Justin held on tightly, and then when the machine stopped, he rejoined his friends. Justin told everyone about everything. A mouse named Jonathon then calls Nicodemus and asks if the mice with him can join the rats in the plan, but their cages were locked. So Nicodemus agrees to open their cages The rats and mice discussed the plan, and had lots of problem, but managed to succeed, even though a few mice went missing. They finally went free. the next morning. When Nicodemus was going to sleep, Jenner wanted to know where they would go when they escaped. Nicodemus did not want to go back home because he knew he was not a rat anymore, he was more than that. So where would a civilized group of rats go? There was another problem, but Nicodemus was sure it was taken care of. The next morning, when the humans left the laboratory, they went back to the machine, but this time, 6 mice went missing. They did not know whether the rats were still In there, or dead but they still left an opening in the screen. (The screen was a heavy wire with acornsized holes.) The rats and mice hammered at it with the screwdriver, but they could not move it. But one of the mice had a plan, which actually worked. And finally they were all on the roof… free. Chapter 19: “ The Boniface Estate.” The setting was in a big, fancy house with beautiful furniture, and a crystal chandelier, with everything they needed (Food, Kitchen supplies, books, place to sleep….) They were all finally free. The weeks past by, and reading made them recognize signs on buildings and in the super market(s). One day, they all decided they would find some place to settle down in the winter. One autumn, as they were walking, they reached a very high fence, surrounding a big house called the Boniface Estate. No one seemed to live there, so the rats stayed there the whole winter. After a few days they found out the owners of the house would be coming back in May. The rats tried to enjoy it as much as they could the whole winter by reading and practicing how to read. They went free. They decided one day to look for a place to stay (in the winter). They found a big house called the Boniface Estate. One day they found out that the owners would be coming back soon. The whole winter, the rats enjoyed it. They would read, and learn how to Wright. Extra: Sometimes in the super market, they would bump into other rats. And the different mice and rats were stronger and healthier And they knew how to read! Unlike the normal rats; they are weak and puny, and only steel food to eat! Chapter 20: “ The Main Hall” The setting was in the rosebush, in the biggest room Mrs. Frisby ever saw. It was huge, with people working and rushing. (And in Mrs. Frisby’s house) Justin and Mr. Ages came in Nicodemus’ office. Nicodemus thought they came back so soon, but it was past noon already. Mrs. Frisby had to hurry back to her children. They must have been worrying. When she got home, she did not tell them about Jonathon’s story, only about Jeremy and the owl and about the rats. They were a bit curious about why rats would want to help, and also owls, but she explained to them. They had lunch, and Mrs. Frisby had to get back to the rosebush. So she told them not to worry, and went off. In the rosebush, Justin took Mrs. Frisby a different way. He took her to the main hall, to tell her about the plan. The main hall was the biggest room Mrs. Frisby had ever seen. Lots of rats were talking, working, hurrying and more. The rats working could not stop. They were following a schedule. Justin told Mrs. Frisby about the key to the plan. And the whole plan was: to live, without steeling. It was past noon, and Mrs. Frisby had to hurry back to her children. When she got home, Mrs. Frisby did not explain the whole story, she explained most of it. The family had lunch, and Mrs. Frisby had to get back to the rosebush. In the rosebush, Justin took Mrs. Frisby to the main hall, to tell her about the plan. There were many working rats. Justin showed Mrs. Frisby the key to the plan. The whole plan was basically to live, without steeling. Chapter 21: “The Toy Tinker” The setting was in a farmland with lots Nicodemus and his friends continued to talk of small, big, old and damped caves. about the story: They left the house on the first day of May. They learned a lot about: Astronomy, art, maths, music and more. They even read poetry and liked it. But history was Nicodemus’ favorite. He read the Dark Ages, which made Nicodemus, think about how the rats/mice might live. Most books were about people, and how they thought that rats spread diseases, because of the stealing. One book written by a scientist said that rats seemed to be making a civilization of their own. The rats talked a lot about that and more… and realized that a rat civilization is not the same as the human’s. And the house they were staying in gave the rats/mice shelter, food, also education, but they were not very comfortable there because nothing was designed for them; it was above ground, and un natural. So when they left, they wanted to live in a cave. So they studied maps and atlases, and found a cave In a farmland. It took 2 months to get there. There were lots of cages (small, big, old, damp). But before the rats chose any, they found the Toy Tinker. They saw a man lying on the floor dead. They also found his truck. On the truck was a list of objects. He was obviously a mender of toys. The rats/mice saw his campfire, and observed They Left Boniface Estate the first day of may. They learned a lot. When they left, they wanted to go somewhere comfortable, so they studied the maps, and found a place, and moved there. It took them 2 months to get there. There were a lot of caves there. But before they got to choose any they found a toy tinker lying on the floor dead. He also had his truck with a list of objects written in it. They wandered what was in the truck and wanted to look insdie. the truck. And just by looking, they knew the cause of the man’s death. Jenner and Nicodemus started to talk, and one of them wandered: why not see what’s in the truck. Chapter 22: “Thorn Valley”. The setting was in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s The rats found more than they had farm and in a very beautiful valley. hoped for in the truck. It was many tools the rats could use, but they needed electricity. So they picked Mr. Fitzgibbon’s farm. They tapped into his electricity lines and water pipes and they got everything/ had everything. Nicodemus still thought that it was steeling, and he has stolen more than ever. So he was wondering if he could live on the far side of the mountain. He asked the owl and the owl told him. (That’s how they know each other). On the other side they found a beautiful valley and Nicodemus wanted to live there. But there was an argument with Nicodemus and Jenner about moving to The rats found many things they could use in the future, but most run on electricity, and there was no electricity, so they decided to live in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s farm. They stole many things, and nothing was the rat’s work. So Nicodemus wanted to go live somewhere else, so he asked the owl. Nicodemus found a beautiful valley and wanted to stay. There were problems but they were solved. So they stored food, and planned when they were going to move. the Valley or staying in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s farm. They worked out the plan, and agreed to live in the Valley and move there by June. They were hoping to live there forever. Chapter 23: “Captured”. The Setting was in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s house, in the kitchen cupboard. It was time to start the plan about the powder for Dragon. There were a few minutes left though, and Mrs. Frisby had a few questions about Jonathan, and about why he never told her about Nihm. Nicodemus talked to her about it and about the injections and how they make the rats live longer. He talked more, until it was time. They went over the plan very quickly and then they began. They sneaked into Mr. Fitzgibbons house, and into the kitchen cupboard. Mrs. Frisby looked around for Dragon’s bowl, she ran to it and put the powder, then tried to run back to the cupboard. However, Billy, Mr. Fitzgibbon’s youngest son caught Mrs. Frisby! Before they started the plan, Mrs. Frisby asked a few questions and Nicodemus answered them. They went over the plan quickly and then snuck into the kitchen cupboard. Mrs. Frisby ran to Dragon’s plate, and put the powder. On the way back to the cupboard, Billy (Mr. Fitzgibbon’s son), caught Mrs. Frisby. Chapter 24: “Seven Dead Rats” The Setting was in a big heavy birdcage in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s house, in the kitchen. Mrs. Frisby was stuck in a birdcage, while Mr. Fitzgibbon’s family were having dinner. Mr. Fitzgibbon then started a talk about humans finding Seven DEAD Rats on a shelf in a hardware store. They were dead because they were electrocuted. Then Mr. Fitzgibbon talked about Rabies and about people coming and trying to look for the rats in Mr. Fitzgibbons garden and capturing them, then poising them. Mrs. Frisby listened carefully and was extremely worried. She had to escape and run to the rats. She had to warn them! Mrs. Frisby was put into a birdcage. It was dinnertime for Mr. Fitzgibbon’s family. They started to talk about rats and about people coming to Mr. Fitzgibbon’s garden to look for the rats. He climbed up and moving day. helped her out of the cage. They ran out of the house until they got to the garden. Then she told him about the family talk, and he was glad she had told him. He wanted to tell Nicodemus, but later because now, they had to move Mrs. Frisby’s house. There were a few problems with lady shrew; she thought the rats had done something to Mrs. Frisby. But Mrs. Frisby tried to convince her that she was safe. The rats finished moving the house, and timothy was rapped up, they were ready for moving day. Chapter 26: “ At the Meeting”. The setting was in the rosebush in a Large Assembly room that Mrs. Frisby saw when she got a lift. Mrs. Frisby woke up feeling safe in her new house. She then heard a voice and it was Brutus. He was inviting her to a meeting. She walked along with him to the Assembly room where all the rats were gathered. The rats asked Mrs. Frsiby about what she had heard about the dead rats the humans had found. They also asked her if the dead rats were 6 or 7, but she did not Justin invited Mrs. Frisby to a meeting. They went together to the assembly room where all rats were gathered. The rats asked Mrs. Frisby what she knew about the men from NIHM. They also asked her about the amount of rats the humans had found dead. She answered some questions, and tried Chapter 27: “The Doctor”. The Setting was in Mr. Fitzgibbon’s garden. It was a chilly morning with moist gentle wind blowing. know because Mr. Fitzgibbon didn’t say so. The rats were thinking that it might have been Jenner’s group because they were 7. But it could have been Jenner’s group because they would have knew how to use the motor. The rats were terrified because they knew that NIHM is coming to look for them. They did not want to get killed so they made a plan. Their plan was to move all their furniture to the cave, and go bring some garbage and throw it in the rosebush so that when the men from NIHM would come, they would see it is a normal rat hole. They also decided to leave 10 rats behind. When NIHM would come, the rats would get alerted from the noise, and then they would escape from the back exit. to answer the other. Then the rats made a plan. It was to move all their furniture to the cave and put garbage in the rosebush so that it would look like a normal rat hole. They also decided to leave 10 rats behind. When the men from NIHM would come, they would get alerted form the noise and would escape from the back exit. Mrs. Frisby climbed up on a tree branch to watch everything. She waited until a White truck came. A man wearing white came out of the truck and knocked on Mr. Fitzgibbon’s door, returned to the truck and waited. The men put gas masks on, because they were going to pump gas into the rosebush. When they started, Mrs. Frisby began asking herself questions. Therefore she saw a few rats come out, followed by more and more, and they were in total 7 rats. 3 more were still in the rosebush! The 7 rats then got together, and made it look like there were 20 rats. They danced in front of the men to fool them. The men got their nets and tried to catch the rats but they could not. All of a sudden Mrs. Frisby noticed 1 more rat come out of the rosebush, falling on the ground. The 3 men opened the rosebush more and saw 2 dead rats. Mr. Fitzgibbon was disappointed that only 2 rats were found, and then the men left. Mrs. Frisby climbed down the tree, and ran to the rat on the floor, Brutus, and next to him Mr. Ages. They woke Brutus up, and Brutus told them what he remembered; One rat saved Brutus, then went back to the rosebush and saved another rat. They were wondering who the rat was. Whoever it was, he was brave. but they could not. The humans opened the rosebush more and saw 2 dead rats. Mrs. Frisby then noticed one more rat coming out of the rosebush, and falling on the floor. When the humans left, Mrs. Frisby ran to the rat on the ground, Brutus. Next to him was Mr. Ages waking him up. Brutus shared what he remembered and Mrs. Frisby wondered who the dead rat was. A few days later the plowing began. Some insects died and some were safe. Mrs. The plowing began and Mrs. Frisby moved to her summerhouse “Epilogue”. Frisby didn’t think she would see the rats, since they moved to the valley. Mrs. Frisby did not know where the valley was. It was time for her to tell her children the story. She told them, and Martin said he would want to fly with Jeremy to the valley and visit the rats. He would not be harm because both Mrs. Frisby and Jonathan Frisby helped the rats. Anyways, the mice moved to their summerhouse, but before that she covered her house with leaves so no one would find it. When she got to the summerhouse, her neighbors asked her why she did not move ealrier than moving day. All Mrs. Frisby said was; Her house was in a spot that was not plowed. She promised to never tell the secret of the rats. and told her children the rat story. Martin wants to go visit the rats. And Mrs. Frisby promised she wont tell the secret of the rats.
