Dear Parents,
Happy weekend
This week in math we reviewed Unit 4 and tested on Tuesday. We then started
Unit 5 which deals with division concepts. In spelling we had “citation””itation’
and “ation” suffixes. We continued to look at the genre historical fiction and
used our read aloud book, Number the Stars to put that concept into context.
The kids are pretty interested in Nazi Germany. We discussed the Berlin
Olympics of 1936 and the racism that was going on in Germany not only
against Jewish people but also against the African American athletes who went
to compete. The kids had work time for their book report. We assembled the
motion and design buckets, the kids completed a challenge and build the
standard vehicle. The PTO had an assembly today.
Next week in math we will be estimating with division, interpreting remainders
and dividing whole numbers by decimals. Spelling will have a new set of
suffixes. The kids will have new small group guided reading books and we will
be looking at the skill “summarizing.” The kids will be working with their
science record sheets and will be moving the vehicle with a falling weight
system. The concepts of potential and kinetic energy will be part of these
lessons. Next week in writing students will being a creative writing piece in
conjunction with a project they are working on in art class. The kids will be
working on their circle books in social studies.
Six Flags logs are due this coming Friday, the 21st.
My class decided that they would like to do a “pamper” basket for the spring
PTO dance. So, I am asking for donations of lotions, gels, lip balms…anything
that could be added to a basket geared towards pampering. Items should be
new. I will purchase a basket the second week of March that fits all of our
goodies. Thanks in advance for your help with this
