Warm-up: Write down one question that you have about the book A Separate Peace that you’d like to discuss. Make-up dates for summer assignments: Wednesday: Dialectical Journals due Friday: Make-up tone words test I need syllabi from: Jocelyn, Minerva, Carissa, Jasmine B., Peige, Carlos, Melody Bring A Separate Peace tomorrow. Listening and Speaking 1.1: Formulate judgments about the ideas under discussion and support those judgments with convincing evidence. Before we discuss the book, let’s look at our warm-ups from the last two days: 1.Make two columns to describe Gene and Finny. Describe each boy. Which boy is the protagonist/antagonist and why? List plot events that reveal the characteristics you listed. Give textual evidence from chapters 1 and 2 (with page numbers) to describe these two young men. 2. Find textual evidence (i.e. quotes from the book) that reveals how Finny and Leper are alike. (Note: Find at least one quote that shows Finny’s harmonious nature and at least one quote that shows Leper’s harmonious nature.) Before we begin a more structured examination of A Separate Peace, I’d like to spend a bit more time on your questions, comments and concerns. (Hint: this is a good chance to impress your teacher at the beginning of the year, even if you are a naturally reticent person.)
