The Constitution was based on the Madisonian model which created a government including Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, and Federalism. This model has come under criticism for creating gridlock and delays in government. After reading the Founding Fathers and Gridlock: Answer the following: 1) Differentiate between a presidential and parliamentary form of government as it relates to federalism & gridlock. 2) What was Madison’s main fear and how did he counteract that fear? 3) What were the intentions of the founding fathers as it relates to separation of powers, checks and balances and federalism? 4) Do we need to re-write the Constitution to deal with gridlock or follow the intentions of the founders?
