Montgomery College invites applicants for the position of instructional dean in the Business, Information Sciences, and Hospitality Management Area at the Rockville campus. The Rockville Campus, with an enrollment of approximately 17,000 credit students is enriched by a culturally and ethnically diverse student population with students from approximately 170 countries. The instructional dean is responsible for providing effective leadership for the following nine disciplines in the unit: accounting, business, economics, management, computer applications including web development and computer gaming, computer science, and hospitality management. The dean serves as the College’s lead dean for accounting, business, economics and management for academic area review, outcomes assessment, and scheduling. In addition, the incumbent in this position oversees the Macklin Business Institute, an endowed honors program for business students, the Marriott Hospitality Center, a grant-funded program with scholarships and educational and co-curricular opportunities for hospitality management students and faculty, and the campus Evening Weekend Office that provides support services for campus adjunct faculty. This position reports to the Vice President and Provost of the Rockville Campus and is an integral part of the campus administrative team. The dean is responsible for planning, budgeting and overseeing the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development of approximately 95 faculty (38 full-time faculty and 57 part-time faculty) and 12 staff. The Instructional Dean provides academic leadership, works with faculty to develop student success initiatives, promotes learning within and outside of the classroom, works closely with other campus and College units as well as working with local school partnerships and organizations, representing the College and the programs in his or her area of supervision. Examples include serving on the local school system’s Academy of Finance Advisory Board and on the Hospitality and Tourism Cluster Advisory Board and the Business and Finance Cluster Advisory Board. The dean helps to ensure a student-centered focus that balances college, campus, and community interests. The dean plays an important role in representing the needs of Montgomery College to external constituents and donors. The ideal candidate is a vocal and passionate supporter of community colleges, an enthusiastic and engaged leader of the faculty with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong advocate for effective and innovative teaching and learning, a supporter of curriculum and program development for program currency and relevancy and a conscientious administrator who is adept at fiscal and personnel management within established College guidelines. Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in one of the disciplines that will be supervised (accounting, business, economics, management, computer applications, computer science and hospitality management or a closely related area) Full-time teaching experience as a faculty member at the college level Five (5) years of experience as a department chair or equivalent administrative experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Evidence of experience and ability to manage budgets Evidence of ongoing professional development Strong commitment to the mission of the community college A successful candidate must have outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, and students Academic leadership to include student success initiatives and program and curriculum development and evaluation Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate in accounting, business, economics, management or closely related field Five (5) years of experience as a department chair or equivalent administrative experience in higher education.
