Students who score within five points of ENC 091 in
Writing on the COMPASS (34-38) will enroll in ENC
091with Supplemental Instruction rather than ENC
090.
According to the revised Assessment and Placement
Policy, beginning fall 2014, The TABE-A Language
Exam is now an approved instrument for writing
course placement. Students who score 9.1 to 9.5 on
TABE-A will be allowed to enroll in ENC 091 with
Supplemental Instruction rather than ENC 090. All
others will be referred to Adult Ed.

present to facilitate instruction – all work done on
computer. Instructor conferences with students over
Writing Assignments and allows for multiple revisions.
(Can retake COMPASS before the next course and
move “up” if they have the score – 091 to 101).
Offer summer 1-week boot camp, then retest on COMPASS
Use of Tutors in class aiding instructor for one-on-one
assistance.

IRW 095 - combines upper COMPASS
ranges of RDG 30 and ENC 91. This is a 4
credit hour class, which can help students
only taking 3 courses meet the 67% pass
rate for financial aid. Students can retake
the COMPASS exams toward the end of the
semester to test into credit-bearing
courses, or pass a final exam and earn STEP
credit for RDG 30 and ENC 91. Offered
online only. Connect is used for
individualized skills practice. Assignments
are not the same as traditional RDG 30 and
ENC 91. Assignments are integrated and
newly created for this course
