I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since February
2003. I started at Gold's Gym in Murfreesboro, TN. From there
I went to a hair salon called Shear Image for 1 year. I then
found a massage/spa atmosphere at Knead for Wholeness
and stayed there for 2 1/2 years until I decided to start out on
my own.
In October 2006, I started with Natural Health as the head
therapist and business manager and soon took over as
owner.
I am trained in PreNatal, Muscle Release, Hot Stones,
Myofascial Release, Stretching, Craniosacral, and I am a Reiki
Master. I have studied Fibromyalgia, DVT, STDs, Diabetes and
many other conditions so that my knowledge is expanded to
massage anyone who walks through the doors.

What is Massage Therapy?
1. A Systematic manual manipulation of the body’s
tissues
2. One of the oldest and most widespread healing
techniques
History of Massage
• Started over 5,000 years ago
• Natural reaction to when the body hurts is to rub it
• Massage is derived from 2 sources
– Arabic verb mass “to touch”
– Greek word massein “to knead”
• Dates back to at least ancient Rome
• Techniques have changed dramatically in the past 50
years
• Sweden – early 19th century, Peter Ling – appears to be
founder of modern day massage techniques, incorporated
with French massage techniques
Types of massage strokes
 Effleurage
 Pétrissage
 Friction
 Tapotement
 Vibration
Massage strokes vary by
 Applying more or less pressure
 Using different parts of the hand
 Changing direction of the stroke
 Changing rhythm and speed of application
The Basics of Massage
 To make sure the client is warm and in a
comfortable, relaxed position.
 To make sure the client is properly draped with
sheets & blanket.
 A hurt body part may be elevated if necessary.
 Massage should never be painful, except for
Friction Massage and Deep Tissue.
 Each session should begin & end with
effleurage.
 Duration depends on pathology, size of area,
speed of motion, age, size, & condition of client.
Why is Massage Needed on

Different Types of Massage
Massage therapy is becoming more accessible
to the public than ever before.
As massage becomes more available, the
variety of options can be confusing.
Most common question is: Do I want a Swedish
or Deep Tissue massage?
Here are the Types that we have to offer:
Swedish Relaxation Massage




Uses long flowing strokes
Also commonly known as
Relaxation Massage due
to it being the major
benefit of a Swedish
Massage
Swedish massage has
many benefits including
increased circulation.
Because blood carries
oxygen and nutrients to
the tissues, it is thought to
promote healing.
Deep Tissue Massage



Most therapists also offer deep
tissue massage, sometimes
integrated with Swedish
massage.
Deep tissue works on the
muscles below the superficial
muscles.
It is usually done on a specific
area, especially where a client is
experiencing pain or cramping
from overuse.
Trigger Point Massage
 Trigger points are what we
know as muscle knots and can
be responsible for pain in
another part of the body.
 May be found in muscles,
tendons, ligaments,
surrounding joints, & in the
skin
 May activate & become
painful due to trauma
 Stimulation of these points
have resulted in pain relief
 must therefore be given in such
a manner that no harm is done to the unborn baby
 after the fourth month of pregnancy it is
absolutely necessary that the pregnant mother
only get a pregnancy massage
 does wonders for the physical as well as mental
fatigue that a pregnant mother is feeling
 Recommended once a month for easier delivery
of the unborn baby
We use the Prego Pillow
so that both mother and
baby are comfortable and
do not have to move
around a lot
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
•Combination of traction with
varying amounts of stretch
•Used to produce a moderate
sustained force on the
muscle and its fascia
•Indicated to
–Lengthen fascial layers
–Restore mobility between
fascial layers
–Decrease the effects of
adhesions
Hot Stone Massage
Helps to calm the nervous
system
Relieves tight and sore
muscles
Uses a moist heat
Different size stones are
roasted to a warm and
comfortable temperature
Great for relieving stress!
More exotic modalities are becoming more available.
Thai Yoga Massage
Mixture of deep massage
techniques and stretching
Great way to get to those
hard to reach muscles
Helps to increase flexibility
It is generally performed on
a mat on the floor. The client
may wear loose clothing that
is easy to move in.
As with other Asian
modalities, the practitioner
follows channels on the body
where energy is believed to
flow.
Reiki & Craniosacral Massage
 Reiki is an ancient energy healing method that improves health
by restoring balance and harmony to the mind/body/spirit
 CST works by helping the body's natural healing mechanisms
dissipate the negative effects of stress on the central nervous
system.

the body

of motion and flexibility, improved
posture, faster healing, slower heart
rate and lower blood pressure
Lomi Lomi Massage
Unlike many massages, Lomi Lomi takes a
minimalist approach with regards to towels both
on the table and on your body. The idea is to
remove any barriers to the full body strokes of
the massage
Therapeutic Massage
creates partnerships between massage centers and hospitals
•Massage is a term that generally alludes to helping
a person relax
•Massage Therapy implies that the goal is to provide
therapeutic benefits and it is in fact being used to
alleviate symptoms of chronic ailments.
•Because of this form of massage therapy, it is now
being used in hospitals as well – either in partnership
with massage therapy centers or given by employed
hospital massage therapists.
•Many people that have tried out this form of
massage believe that the alleviation achieved is far
superior to what you can expect out of different drug
therapies.
Only have a little bit of time?
Using Chair
Massage
is
certainly recommended as it can
drastically bring stress levels down
and also lower the numbers of stress
causing hormones in the body.
Between 5-20 minutes
On site and Off Site Options
Massage is increasingly popular in
workplace wellness programs. These
programs make services and activities
available to employees to improve
their overall health and wellbeing.
