Adhesives Containment Of Costly Solvents. The “Closed-System” design of the Daymax means that solvents can be contained. This not only saves raw material costs but minimizes dusting problems and contributes to a cleaner working environment. Ways in which the Daymax churns up profits for adhesive producers. Up To 30 Times Faster Processing: MATERIAL PROCESSING TIME Daymax Dissolver Vynil Phenolic Adhesives. 11 Min. 45 Min. Nitrite Rubber/ Epoxi Resin. 20 Min. 2 Hours Natural Rubber Solutions. 2 Hours 48 Hours Neoprene Cements Higher Quality Dispersions. Finer dispersions can be achieved in the Daymax. Many times, the Daymax alone can equal or exceed dispersions made with a dissolver and additional refining equipment. Energy Efficient Conventional Dispersers lose 20-25% of power in transmission. The direct drive of the Daymax utilizes 100% of the motor power. Result: Energy Savings. Higher Viscosity Range. With the Rotating-Baffle, can be used with heavy viscosity adhesives, up to the 60-80,000 CPS range. 1 Hour 4 Hours Easy Of Cleaning. The Daymax is “Self-Cleaning”, which adds to increase productivity due to fast cleaning times. Varnish How To Reduce Varnish Costs By 25% Originally, the Daymax was designed for Mfrg. Of aniline printing inks containing solid synthetic resins dispersed hot or cold in hydrocarbon solvents such as alcohol, acetone, acetate, and toluene. Today, it is equally efficient in the production of heliographic and othe r water-based inks, litho ink premixes, newspaper inks, heat-set offset inks and a variety of varnishes. Captive Varnish Making Saves One Ink Maker $300,000 Annually. A medium-size East Coast inkmaker has documented cost savings of 25% on his varnish production using the Daymax. This translates to a savings of up to 30 Cents per pound on his annual production of One Million pounds of final ink products. And, in the bargain, he is attaining a superior quality of varnish and eliminating varnish aging problems. Absolute Safety. The Daymax disperser/mixer, utilizing a closed processing system, assures operating safety throughout the range of inkmaking operations. This is especially critical for In-House varnish production where explosions involving gas-fired open kettles are not quite uncommon. The Daymax unit is a smart investment even without considering its cost saving features. Unexcelled Productivity and Versatility The Daymax will disperse much faster than dissolvers or comparable high speed mixers… 2 to 10 times faster. One ink producer reports dispersing water based flexo-inks in 30 Minutes, as opposed to the One Day and a Half it took in a ball mill, with better quality. Pigment Blends Daymax Advantages Against Top Driven Dissolvers On a typical example, one plant replaced several top entering dissolvers and Three-Roll-Mills with considerable savings in time & labor, improvement in quality and in batch-to-batch uniformity. Daymax units are dedicated for different colors to minimize cleaning & cross contamination. Previously, 1 Hour & 45 Minutes was required to prepare 700 Lbs through a top entering dissolver and Three-Roll-Mills. Now they can prepare 7,000 Lbs TiO2 dispersion batch in 4 Hours. Because of the nature of operation, more than 50% of the time is used up in loading the materials. The mix is run for additional time after loading, to obtain a dispersion of 4 on Hegman gauge. As a rule of thumb, this plant allows about 1/2 Hr of extra mixing time per 1,000 Lbs of solids in the mix, after all the solids have been added. Chilled water at 45° to 50° F is circulated in the jacket. The maximum product temperature reached during dispersion is about 175° F and is well within the allowable limits. The Daymax prepares a dispersion of TiO2 and other pigments in a plasticizer blend and from here the dispersion is sent to a mixer for compounding and then to a Banbury mill and a calendering line. Good quality predispersed pigment enables this manufacturer to obtain the maximum color development. The resin compound is plasticized in a Banbury and the calendering line is used to produce the vinyl sheeting. The colored flexible vinyl sheets are used for various end use applications such as upholstery. Plastisols Daymax Advantages Against Top Driven Dissolvers For production of the highest quality plastisols and organisols. This high shear disperser thoroughly disperses the PVC resin and extender pigments in the plasticizer in a minimum length of time. No milling on three roll mills is needed following the Daymax dispersion cycle. You will get approximately a 2-3% gain in actual yield when the Daymax is used in dispersion. This increase is due to the fact that there is not the usual loss of product caused by transferring it to and from several vessels and machines. All viscosities except the very highest are handled on the Daymax. Heat build-up long a problem in plastisol manufacturing, is minimized with the Daymax because the dispersion cycle is generally very short in comparison with that of other methods. Heat does not have a chance to build. Also, the unit is jacketed, for proper temperature control. LOWER INVESTMENT FASTER PRODUCTION LESS MANPOWER ALL-IN-ONE TANK JOB LESS HEAT BUILD UP Single Daymax costs less than slow-speed mixers with three-roll-mills. Batch compounded under high shear drastically reduces batch times. No milling personnel needed. Larger Batchs means less manpower/Ton Higher Yields,2-3% higher. Easier Clean Dispersion is accomplished so rapidly that heat does not build up.
