Course Details:
HC 101A is a two-unit course, P/NP only. The objective of the course is to help
you understand university research more broadly and deeply, and to help you
define your place in the larger research community. Students at any level are
welcome!
Course Requirements:
Sciences:
 Class attendance.
 Participate in.
 Completion of all online workshop evaluation surveys.
 Completion of online final course evaluation.
Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences (AHASS):
 Class attendance.
 Participate ALL lectures and discussions/workshops.
 Completion of all online workshop evaluation surveys.

In-class participation:
During the last 20 minutes of each class, each of you will be asked to
“interview” one neighbor--you will have 5-8 minutes to do the interview.
We will randomly select 2-3 pairs of students to introduce each other to the class.
Interview Questions:
1. Students name
2. Major
3. Class standing
4. Research topic, if any, including the following:
o Lab and individual research goals/focus
o Organism using for studies
o Level of study-molecular, cellular, organismal, ecological, etc.
5. One interesting, non-research related fact about the student.
