Self-Evaluation Project – “Career” Speech For this assignment, you will again view the video of your speech performance saved onto the USB drive you provide. You will watch your presentation and evaluate yourself using the same evaluation form used for your previous self-evaluations. You will be given one week to view the video and complete the evaluation. You will need to hand in your evaluation no more than one week after the date you received your USB drive with the copy of the speech on it. I will grade your self-evaluation based on the following criteria: 1. 2. 3. 4. the thoroughness of your appraisal the accuracy of your critique the completeness of your written assessment the quality and neatness of the writing Your written evaluation should look very similar to the evaluations you have received earlier in the semester. Your comments, however, will be based on your performance of this speech. Be sure to provide complete explanations for your evaluations such as examples of good elements (such as, “nice use of an illustration about dogs as your attention getter) or descriptions of areas of improvement, (such as, “don’t use ‘well, that is about it” as a closing). The more complete your explanation and description, the more points you will receive. You should also make sure that I can understand your comments – do not use phrases which do not explain your evaluation (such as, “eye contact”. You should explain if the eye contact was good or bad and how it impacted the speech/audience.) I want to see that you watched your performance and did an honest AND COMPLETE evaluation of your presentation. I also want you to use the skills we have highlighted in our class to critique yourself and prepare for better speeches in the future. This is truly a wonderful opportunity to improve your presentation skills. Research shows that viewing your own presentations is the most successful way to improve performance. Plus it is fun!
