NAME OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMME Master of Public Health (MPH) FACULTY/ KULLIYYAH/ CENTRE/ INSTITUTION Department of Community Medicine, Kulliyyah of Medicine LEVEL OF STUDY YEAR OF COMMENCE MENT DURATION OF PROGRAMME / MODE OF OFFERING Master Academic Session 2019/2020 One (1) year or twelve (12) months. Full time with dissertation. Comprise of lectures, self-centred learning, seminars, practical training, field visits, case presentation and research project. Maximum duration of study is 2 (two) years or twenty-four (24) months. 1) To train the candidates as the professional resource person in the field of public health. 8 JUSTIFICATI ON TO OFFER PROGRAMME 2) To provide opportunities to medical officers to be properly trained in the field of public health for career advancement. 3) To fulfill the demands from government and private sector at national and international level, with regards to the needs of having skillful public health specialist. 2 The objectives of the programme are to produce public health specialist who are: 9 OBJECTIVES OF PROGRAMME 1. knowledgeable and technically competent in public health discipline. 2. effective in communication and demonstrate good leadership quality in an organization. 3. capable to solve public health problems innovatively, creatively and ethically through sustainable approach. 4. able to demonstrate leadership skills and recognize the need of lifelong learning for successful career advancement. 5. professionally and ethically committed to conduct public health services in line with Islamic concepts and values. On successful completion of the programme, the students should able to: 1 0 OVERALL OUTCOME 1. acquire and apply knowledge of sciences and art of public health fundamentals to public health field. 2. demonstrate comprehensive technical expertise in public health. 3. communicate effectively both in written and spoken form with medical professionals and community. 4. formulate and conduct sound scientific research, and produce reports. 5. identify, formulate and provide creative, innovative and effective solution to public health problems. 6. function individually or in teams, effectively, with a capability to be a leader. 7. recognize the need for and to engage in continuing education, lifelong learning and professional development. 8. realize and demonstrate effective leadership responsibility and managerial skill. 9. perform duties effectively and efficiently, while incorporating Islamic values, high ethical and professional standards. (22) dlm. KKM (AM) 09/62/305/22/2 section 4 by Ministry of Health, Malaysia dated 18th December 2006 clearly states: a) Master of Public Health is the basic course required before candidates can pursue on sub-specialty training 1 1 MARKET SURVEY b) The gazettement of Public Health Specialist require the candidates to have Master of Public Health or equivalent, and specialty or sub-specialty training at DrPH/PhD level or joining any fellowship programmes offered by Ministry of Health Malaysia. The current statistic from Ministry of Health Malaysia shows that the number of Public Health Specialist that received training in Master of Public Health is 318 (2006). The projection for the year 2010, 2015 and 2020 are 1473, 1618 and 1781. It is estimated that 60 Master of Public Health graduates can be produce with the existing number of higher learning institution. The Ministry of Health, Malaysia also is currently planning to increase the number of Public Health Specialist in the district from 2 to 3 or 5 in the future. Therefore the number of higher learning institution offering Master of Public Health should be increase to meet the increasing demands. The Public Health Specialist should adhere to or understand, wherever applicable, the Islamic concept of the unity of knowledge and the spirit of tawhid. They should possess the desire and skills to continue self-directed learning to keep up with advances in medicine.
