COURSE DESCRIPTION

Biology is the study of living things, how they function, how they interact with other organisms, how they are made, and how the effect our lives. The specific content and chapters that will be covered are listed below:

CONTENT COVERED (SEMESTER 2)

QUARTER 3

 Ch 8-9: DNA, Replication, Protein Synthesis, and Genetic Engineering

 Ch 10: Evolution

 Ch 18: Viruses & Bacteria

 Ch 23-27: Invertebrates & Vertebrates Animals, Characteristics, and Behavior

QUARTER 4

 Ch 28-34: Human Biology (Anatomy & Physiology)

 Ch 20-22: Plants

 Ch 13-16: Ecology

GRADING:

Your semester 1 grade is based on an average of your Quarter 1 Grade, Quarter 2 Grade, and Semester 1 Final

(see student handbook for testing policy).

Each quarter grades is weighted, see points below:

 TESTS & QUIZES: 55% of grade

 LABWORK: 20% of grade

 PROJECTS: 15% of grade

 HOMEWORK: 10% of grade

FINALS:

Refer to student handbook for testing policy

The semester finals are worth 10%-15% of the final grade. It will be a comprehensive final of each semester. A study guide will be provided well in advance to help prepare.

GRADING SCALE:

A = 4 (100-92%)

B = 3 (91-84%)

C = 2 (83-76%)

D = 1 (75-65%)

F = 0 (64 % and below)

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

Ask questions, science is about exploring!

Respect yourself, each other, staff, and property!

No food or drink in the classroom. (exception water is okay, gum is fine in class, not fine in lab)

No electronic devices allowed in class.

Absolutely no cheating, copying, or plagiarism is tolerated in this class; it will result in a zero!

Late Assignments

 All assignments due the day of, after that can receive up to 50% credit for assignments up to the day of the test for that chapter/unit.

 Students must arrange a time to make up labs with teacher on their own time.

 If known absence, assignments should be made up prior to absence.
