General Membership Meeting Minutes - FINAL
October 2, 2014
Call to Order: Judy East, President, called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm. A quorum was present; sign in sheets
are attached. Proper meeting notice was provided.
Approval of Minutes/Correspondence: Minutes of the September 4, 2014 general membership meeting were
approved. There was no correspondence.
Smith Elementary PTSA was congratulated on the quick response to the hidden message in the draft minutes.
Local PTAs were reminded to turn in voting delegate forms.
Treasurer Report: Guia Villavicencio, Treasurer, present the reconciled September treasurer report. Account
balances are as follows: Operations $30,277.65, Scholarship $15926.55, and PayPal $100.00. Recent activity
includes:
 Scholarship assessment/donation of $100.00 from Albert Einstein PTSA.
 $7,000.00 scholarship expenditure for September with YTD of $11,000.00. A balance of $4,000.00

(students) and $1,000.00 (staff)
remains.
Constant Contact pre-pay of $505.92, donation to SODA PTA of $20.00, and other miscellaneous charges
such as check fees and stamp pad for $125.90.
LWSD Partners:
Superintendent Report- Traci Pierce presented a report on demographics of the school district.
The district will be focusing on three major processes this year:
1. District-wide boundary process
2. Long-term school facility planning process
3. College and career readiness planning process
Lake Washington Schools Foundation- Kristina Williams, Executive Director, gave an overview of the Lake
Washington Schools Foundation mission and goals and recent funding impact. Minerva Butler, Board President,
presented information on the Reaching for Success grants. The annual LWSF luncheon is scheduled for April 29th
at Juanita High School.
Lake Washington Citizens Levy Committee- Byron Shutz presented an overview of the levy committee mission
and role. Local PTA were requested to help identify a parent levy liaison for their school and to set aside an
annual levy contribution. A levy committee Q&A session is scheduled for November 6th following the council
general membership meeting.
Hopelink- Marlene Vacknitz, LWPTSA Council Family and Community Engagement Chair, reported on behalf of
Hopelink. Drivers are still needed to pick up Pantry Pack food bags from Hopelink and deliver to schools.
Council will be hosting a community outreach “connection fair” in January. Anyone interested in helping should
contact face@lwptsa.net.
Business:
LWPTSA Council Goals and Objectives- Judy East reviewed the proposed LWPTSA Council goals and objectives.

Motion #1: Marlene Vacknitz moved that “we accept the listed goals and objectives as read.” The motion
was seconded and passed.
Leadership Development Activity – four corners exercise- Julie Haase, Executive Vice President, facilitated the
leadership development networking activity.
Reports:
President - Judy East reported. Washington State PTA leadership packets are available online. The importance of
community cultural sensitivity when scheduling PTA activities was reiterated. Documents explaining the
restricted donation form were provided.
Advocacy- Beth Sigall gave report on legislative assembly. A candidate forum is scheduled for Wednesday,
October 29th, 6:30 pm at Rosa Parks Elementary.
Basket Auction- Amy Lofquist reported. Basket themes are due now. Guidelines regarding alcohol themed
baskets were reviewed. Wrapped baskets with content listing and value are due at the November meeting. A
raffle will be held at the December 4th general membership meeting. New this year is a culminating giftwrapping event with final bidding on December 6th.
Sounders Day- Nick Steen gave a status report on the event. Approximately, 470 tickets have sold. PTAs may
choose to use a paper flyer to promote the event.
“You Rock” Award- Janice Vaché and Colette Ulloa presented the October “You Rock” award to Becky Stansell
and Kristi Kelch, Co-VPs of Events, at Audubon Elementary PTSA for their back to school barbeque.
Announcements: Julie Haase provided announcements.
 Parent education grants are now available.
 October brown bag topic is gun legislation; the November topic is a district boundary update.
 The password-protected council directory is active online.
