Mike Florio, PFT: the future Hall of Famer received $500,000 in guaranteed money as part of his
two-year deal with the Saints. Initially reported as being worth “up to” $7 million, the contract
pays out a base amount of $1.75 million in 2014 and $2 million in 2015, for a base value of $3.75
million. To get the base amount in 2014, Bailey must be on the game-day roster for six or more
games. If he is, he gets $250,000. If not, he will have made $1.5 million in 2014. In 2015, the
Saints owe a $250,000 roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year. Bailey gets another
$250,000 if he’s on the 53-man roster for the first game of the 2015 season. The base salary is
$1.5 million. The deal also contains $150,000 in incentives per year based on interceptions, and
$150,000 per year for Pro Bowl. He can make $1.2 million in 2014 or 2015 for playing time, and
the deal includes a $1.2 million playing-time escalator for 2015. If the NFLPA numbers are right,
that’s a maximum value of $6.75 million…

Bob McGinn, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Brees is coming off major surgery on his right
shoulder but that didn't stop the Saints from lavishing him with a six-year, $60 million deal ($8
million signing bonus, $12 million option bonus).
Andrew Brandt, NFP: Brees, ever the helpful teammate, converted more than half his $9.8M
salary this year into a signing bonus, giving the cap-needy Saints $3.4M in cap room. This
restructure, however, did not affect the remaining three years of the deal, as Brees is under
contract through 2011
Pat Yasinksas, ESPN: Drew Brees and Jahri Evans each are scheduled to receive $200,000
[workout] bonuses [in 2011]
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: The New Orleans Saints' $1.656 million in salary-cap room includes a
$16.371 million cap figure for QB Drew Brees…
Mike Florio, PFT: Brees, per a source with knowledge of the deal, will receive a $37 million
signing bonus and a $3 million base salary in 2012. The full signing bonus will be paid out within
the next six months. The $40 million paid in 2012 is fully guaranteed. For now, $20 million
beyond 2012 is guaranteed for injury only. Next year, on the third day of the waiver period
(typically, the third day after the Super Bowl), $15 million of the injury guarantee becomes fully
guaranteed. The extra $5 million remains guaranteed for injury only. In 2015, again on the third
day of the waiver period, more than half of his $19 million base salary becomes fully
guaranteed. Ditto for 2016; on the third day of the waiver period, more than half of the $20
million base salary becomes fully guaranteed… In all, he’ll receive $40 million this year, $10
million in 2013, $11 million in 2014, $19 million in 2015, and $20 million in 2016.

Michael David Smith, PFT: The Redskins will send either their third-round pick or their fourthround pick to Philly in 2011 to finalize the McNabb trade, based on whether certain triggers are
met in 2010. Whichever of those picks the Redskins don't send to the Eagles, they'll send to the

Mike Triplett, ESPN: The Saints signed Browner to a three-year, $15 million contract that comes
with a 2015 cap cost of just $2.4 million. The deal includes $7.75 in fully-guaranteed money,
including a $3.9 million signing bonus and fully guaranteed base salaries of $1.1 million in 2015
and $2.75 million in 2016. But the contract also includes more playing-time incentives than most
deals. If Browner is active for all 16 games, he’ll earn exactly $5 million in each of his three
seasons. He has base salaries of $2.75 million in both 2016 and 2017, plus $750,000 roster
bonuses due in March in each of those years. Then he can earn up to $750,000 more each year
in weekly bonuses for being on the 53-man roster – plus another $750,000 each year in weekly
bonuses for being on the active 46-man roster. The deal also includes up to $500,000 in “not
likely to be earned” bonuses in both 2015 and 2017 based on playing time and making the Pro
Bowl – which could bump the total value up to $16 million over three years, if reached.
Nick Underhill, The Advocate: The deal also contains $375,000 in playtime incentives in 2015
and 2017 and a $125,000 Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2017. Both of these are listed as “not likely to be
earned” incentives. His cap hits in each of the three years are $2.4 million, $6.3 million, and $6.3
million, respectively.

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The deal averages $4.5 million a season and includes a $4.5 million signing
bonus … Bunkley helped the Saints out by accepting a base salary of $700,000 this year and
spreading out large chunks of money over the rest of the contract. In 2013, Bunkley has a $3.7
million base salary that’s fully guaranteed. In 2014, Bunkley’s salary jumps to $4.4 million and it
stays there for the final two years of the deal. Bunkley also has a $100,000 workout bonus each
year, starting in 2013. He also has escalator clauses that could drive up his base salary in any
season, starting next year.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Bunkley's new deal drops his cap number to $2.5 million in 2013.
Bunkley was slated to make $3.7 million in base salary. The Saints cut his base salary to
$750,000 and turned the other $3 million into signing bonus that will be spread through the
next four seasons.
Aaron Wilson, NFP: It amounted to a $2.85 million paycut for Bunkley. Bunkley restructured his
deal on Monday, receiving $300,000 guaranteed in a roster bonus due Thursday as his base
salary for this year was lowered from $4.4 million to $1.3 million with his salary-cap figure down
to $3.62 million for 2014. There's up to $350,000 in an escalator clause this year. In 2015, he's
still due a $4.4 million base salary with a $6.112 million salary-cap figure and a $100,000
workout bonus and up to $450,000 in an escalator clause. In 2016, he has a $4.4 million base
salary, a $100,000 workout bonus and up to $800,000 in an escalator clause.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: The Saints saved about $3 million in cash and cap space when Bunkley
agreed to a reduced contract last week (similar to what he did last year) -- though he can earn
up to $450,000 in unspecified escalators. Bunkley's base salary dropped from $4.4 million to
$1.25 million. His total bonuses climbed from $100,000 to $300,000. The Saints did not alter the

2011 Traded to MIA Post (for Jonathan Amaya & draft picks)
Adam Caplan/Pauline, Scout.com: A league source points out Bush would get a $200,000 bonus
if the Saints win a Wild Card game, $300,000 bonus if the team wins a game in the Divisional
round, $500,000 if the team wins a Conference Championship, and another $500,000 for a
Super Bowl win in any year of his contract.
Ed Thompson, Scout.com: Scout.com has learned that the New Orleans Saints and running back
Reggie Bush quietly renegotiated his contract in early June. The team included a $4 million
signing bonus as part of the new deal, which runs through 2011, and a $4.5 million roster bonus
for the 2009 season.
Bush had four years remaining on his original deal with $10.25 million in salary and $10 million
in prorated bonus money scheduled spread out through 2011. But he also had $20 million
dollars of "Not Likely to Be Earned" bonuses at a rate of $5 million per year that didn't count
against the Saints' cap unless he reached those incentives.
Under his new deal, which also runs through 2011, Bush will see practically all of that money as
long as he plays out his contract.
While his salary stays the same in 2008, he'll see a marginal increase in 2009 ($2.2 million to
$2.6 million) before making a huge jump from $2.9 million to $8.0 million in 2010. And in 2011,
he will receive $11.8 million in salary instead of the $3.575 million that was in his original
contract. In addition to the $4 million signing bonus, which adds an extra million dollars to the
Saints cap hit for each of the remaining four years, Bush will still have the opportunity to earn
$1.5 million in NLTBE bonuses. And he can earn $800,000 more in 2011. But all other NLTBE
bonuses have been eliminated.
Instead, the team has put up $1.5 million in "Likely to be Earned Bonus" money for both the
2009 and 2010 seasons, and another $700,000 in 2011. All of that money hits the cap
immediately when the contract year begins since it's assumed that the player will reach those
goals.
But perhaps the most significant move by the team is the huge carrot they've dangled to
encourage Bush to finally break out this year and become their featured back. The former USC
Trojan is eligible for a whopping $4.5 million roster bonus prior to the start of the 2009 season,
and then another $490,000 roster bonus prior to the start of the 2010 season.
So in the end, the team converted almost $18 million in NLTBE money into roughly $5 million in
roster bonuses and approximately $13.7 million in salary. And they threw in a $4 million signing
bonus to make it even more attractive. Other than the signing bonus, none of the rest of the
money is guaranteed. But if Bush plays out the entire contract, he'll average $8.2 million over
the four years.
For the 2008 season, Bush's salary cap hit goes up only $1 million dollars from $4.1 million to
$5.1 million. But largely due to the huge roster bonus in 2009 plus the LTBE bonus money, his
toll on the cap will jump roughly $7.4 million ($4.7 to $12.1) next year.
In 2010, the hit goes up by $8 million ($5.4 to $13.5) and, unless he has another new deal in
place by then, his salary cap charge in 2011 will be almost $10 million higher than it was in his
original contract ($6.1 to $16.0).
The team has given Bush all the incentive in the world to excel this season with the lure of a $4.5
million roster bonus awaiting early next year. They aren't likely to cut him loose in 2009 even if
he disappoints this season, simply because he would still hit them for $10.5 million in prorated
bonus money. That's too costly against the cap, even if they would spread it over two seasons
by making him a June 1 cut.
But after that, all bets are off. The team has set themselves up to be able to release him before
the 2010 season if he hasn't realized his potential. With just $7 million in prorated bonus money
remaining on the contract, the team could release him and not only cover the loss, but come
out ahead by roughly $3 million since he's scheduled to earn $8 million in salary, a $490,000
roster bonus and $1.5 million in LTBE bonus money that year.

Pat Yasinksas, ESPN: Colston has a $75,000 [workout] bonus [in 2011].
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Colston's deal is worth $36.3 million over five years. He received
a $10 million signing bonus, and a total of $17.7 million is guaranteed. His 2012 salary-cap
number is $3.3 million. Colston's base salary in 2012 will be $1.2 million, followed by $4.5
million in 2013, $5.5 million in 2014, $6.9 million in 2015 and $7.7 million in 2016. The 2012 and
2013 salaries are guaranteed, with another $2 million guaranteed in 2014. He'll receive a
$100,000 workout bonus in each year.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Colston converted $2.8 million of his base salary into signing
bonus, which will create $2.1 million in cap savings this year.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: Colston took a pay cut of $3.2 million in 2015, all of which was saved
against the salary cap. He went from $7 million in salary and bonuses to $3.8 million. The new
deal now calls for a roster bonus of $2.305 million (due this week), a base salary of $1.445
million and a workout bonus of $50,000. Colston also agreed to an even bigger reduction in
2016, which is the final year of his contract, dropping from $7.8 million in salary and bonuses to
$3.2 million.

John Murphy, Yahoo Sports: the one-year contract signed by New Orleans Saints restricted freeagent WR Terrance Copper is worth as much as $1.1 million and includes a $350,000 signing
bonus. His base salary for 2007 would be $600,000. Copper can make an additional $150,000 in
workout and roster bonuses, which would make his deal worth approximately $250,000 more
than his original tender. Copper, who becomes an unrestricted free agent when the contract
expires, has playing time incentives in his contract related to receptions. If the incentives are
completely reached, they could push the total value of the deal to $1.35 million.

$5.4 million over three years last week. The Panthers had until noon (PST) today to match the
offer and retain Cota or take the Saints' seventh-round draft pick as compensation… Cota will
make $1 million in salary and $1.5 million in bonus money next season, his father George said.
He'll make $1.3 million in salary his second season and $1.6 million his third season, the elder
Cota added. However, Cota's contract will become void and he would become a free agent if the

he will receive 19M in the next seven months. Evans will receive a guaranteed salary of 7M this
year and a signing bonus of 12M paid as follows: 4M on May 15; 6M on July 15; 2M on January
15, 2011.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The new deal drops his cap figure from $5.2 million to $3.36 million. Evans
received a $2.3 million signing bonus as part of the deal. The Saints dropped his base salary to
$700,000 from $3 million.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Evans' 2013 base salary is now $3.04 million, down from a
scheduled $7.2 million. That difference was converted into signing bonus, so Evans will still get
all the money up front. But for accounting purposes, that $4.2 million will be spread out over
the final four years of his deal.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: Evans accepted a small pay cut in 2015 (from $7.5 million in salary and
bonuses to $7.1 million) and a larger pay cut in 2016 (from $8.7 million to $4.9 million). But the
payoff for the six-time Pro Bowler is that $9.5 million is guaranteed over the next two years,
including a $5.4 million signing bonus… 2015: $5.4 million signing bonus. $1.003 million base

Mike Strom, Times-Picayune: The Saints refused to disclose what compensation was given up for
Everett other than to call it an undisclosed draft choice. But team sources with the Rams and
Saints said Los Angeles had received the Saints' seventh-round pick in the upcoming 1994 draft
on April 24-25… in 1994, Everett will receive $500,000 for signing, which is prorated over two
years for salary cap purposes, $250,000 for reporting, $1 million in base salary and $500,000 in
incentives. In 1995, Everett will receive $500,000 if the club renews his option. He then will
make a base salary up to $2 million, depending on the amount of his incentives from 1994.
Everett was scheduled to earn $2.65 million in 1994 and $2.6 million in 1995 with the Rams.
Mike Strom, Times-Picayune: Everett, who was scheduled to earn $2.65 million in 1994 and $2.6
million in 1995 from the Rams, can earn the same $5.25 million total from the Saints if he
achieves the $1 million in incentives written into his new contract… the significant numbers of
the contract are the cap dollar value, which is $1.5 million in 1994, and means the Saints have
gained an extra $2.3 million to spend on players after Wilson's release. Everett will count $2.75
million against the Saints' 1995 cap, pending whether he achieves his extra $1 million in
incentives.
John DeShazier, Times-Picayune: Everett, who signed the contract June 15, will earn $4.701
million this season. He received a $3.8 million signing bonus with a $401,000 base salary and
$500,000 roster bonus. His average salary for the next five years is $3.31 million… His base
salary will escalate to $2.5 million in 1996, $2.7 million in 1997, $2.9 million in 1998 and $3.75
million in 1999. His salary will count $1.661 million toward the $37.1 million salary cap this year,
$3.26 million toward the cap in 1996, $3.46 million in 1997, $3.66 million in 1998 and $4.51
million in 1999… Everett earned approximately $2.2 million in salary and performance incentives
last year, when his base salary was $1.5 million. His cap value would have been $2.2 million this
year. Under the contract extension, Everett's 1995 salary cap figure is $1.661 million, giving the
Saints savings of $539,000, about one-fifth of the total team officials said they needed to create
funds for the practice squad and rookie pool.
Rick Gosselin, Dallas Morning News: Everett will cost the Saints $1.115 million this season and
$1.115 million in 1998. Had he played for the Saints in 1997, his salary cap figure would have
been $3.445 million.

Mike Tripplett, Times-Picayune: also tracked down details of recent deal with Junior Galette:
3yrs, $7.5mil ($3.5mil fully guaranteed, $2.5mil signing bonus, $800k base salary in first year)…
Correction - that's a $2.7 million signing bonus.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: the four-year extension through 2019 includes $41.5 million in new money.
That could increase to as much as $48 million if Galette reaches 12 sacks this season. The deal is
worth a total of $45.5 million to $52 million over six yearsalette received a $3.5 million signing
bonus. His 2014 salary-cap number increases from $2.9 million to $2.95 million. The big jump
comes next year, when Galette is due a guaranteed roster bonus of $12.5 million, vaulting his
cap number to $15.45 million.
Jason Fitzgerald, OverTheCap.com: The contract also contains an interesting set of incentives
that hinge almost solely on his performance this season. If Galette notches 12 sacks in 2014 he
will unlock a $2.5 million roster bonus that is payable in 2016, a $1.3 million escalator in 2018,
and another $1.2 million escaltor in 2019. He must also remain a member of the team in good
standing to keep those incentives, none of which are guaranteed even if earned. If he is
suspended, holds out, or lands on the NFI list it will also void those additional payments.

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Harper said he really didn’t want to leave New Orleans. But he might have
if the Saints hadn’t stepped up with a four-year, $28.5 million contract.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Harper's deal is worth $25 million over four years, which is
slightly less than the $28 million originally reported. He received a $7 million signing bonus.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: If they wanted to get rid of him, they would have done it by the third day
of the league year when $2.6 million of his base salary became guaranteed.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: He will count $3.66 million against the cap now, down from $7.1
million. Harper took a pay cut of $1.5 million this year as part of the deal (from $5.35 million to
$3.85 million). But it was a win-win now that he gets almost all of the money up front and
doesnt have to worry about being released as a cost-saving measure. Harper received a signing
bonus of $2.91 million, plus a base salary of $840,000 in 2013. He also kept his $100,000
workout bonus. Next year Harpers salary will drop from $6 million to $2.35 million, with another
$800,000 in bonuses. His cap number will drop from $7.9 million in 2014 to $5.87 million. The
new deal now includes an extension into 2015. Harpers salary will be $2.7 million that year, with
another $800,000 in bonuses and a cap figure of $4.47 million.
Mike Florio, PFT: Harper’s cap number for 2013 has plunged from $7.15 million to $3.66
million… The new deal extends Harper’s contract by one more year, via a base salary of $2.7
million, a roster bonus of $650,000, and a workout bonus of $150,000 in 2015.

Yasinskas. He converted a scheduled $3 million roster bonus into a signing bonus.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: Hawthorne took a pay cut of $1.25 million -- though it saves a total of $2
million against New Orleans' 2015 cap because of the way it was structured. Hawthorne
received a $1.5 million signing bonus, a base salary of $1.19 million and a roster bonus of

Matt Winklejohn, Atlanta Journal Constitution: The Saints gave him a modest $ 2.15 million
signing bonus as part of a four- year, $ 9.9 million contract…
Brian Allee-Walsh, Times Picayune: Mueller extended Horn’s contract after the 2000 season,
when he caught a career-high 94 passes for 1,340 yards and eight touchdowns and was selected
to the Pro Bowl. The extension included a $2.7 million signing bonus.
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Horn is scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.7 million for 2003, with a
roster bonus of $200,000 and an offseason workout bonus of $100,000 for which he almost
certainly will not meet the qualifications. In 2004, the final season of his current deal, his base
salary is $2.9 million and he is due a $100,000 roster bonus.
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Under his old contract, Horn was due a total of $6 million in 2003-2004.
The new contract, which adds a season and now binds Horn to New Orleans through 2005, is
worth $13 million, but only raises the Saints' cap charge for '03 from $4.212 million to $5.312
million. Under the new deal, Horn received a $5.1 million signing bonus that is payable in six
installments. He already pocketed a $200,000 roster bonus on March 15 and then got an
additional $1.5 million roster bonus on Thursday. His base salaries for 2003 and 2004 are
$700,000 each (down from the scheduled $2.7 million for this year and $2.9 million for 2004
under the old deal) and then the base jumps to $3.8 million for 2005. There is also a $1 million
roster bonus due in the spring of 2005.
Jeff Duncan, Times Picayune: The final numbers are in the books for Joe Horn's six-year, $41
million contract extension. Horn will earn base salaries of $665,000 (2005), $1.635 million
(2006), $4.450 million (2007), $4.73 million (2008), $5.010 million (2009) and $5.29 million

by last year's fifth-round pick, defensive back/kick returner Tyrone Hughes, who received a

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The Saints did a similar maneuver with linebacker Ramon Humber. His oneyear deal is worth $740,000. But the veteran minimum benefit puts his cap number at $550,000.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: Humber’s deal is worth $795,000, including a $65,000 signing bonus.
However, he will only count $635,000 against the Saints’ cap as part of the NFL rules regarding
veteran salaries on minimum-level deals.
Nick Underhill, The Advocate: Ramon Humber’s two-year deal with the Saints carries a
maximum value of $3.05 million, according to a source. At it’s core, the deal is a two-year pact
worth $2.085 million with a $334,000 signing bonus. But with a playtime escalator in 2016 worth
up to $965,000, the maximum value could reach $3.05 million. The deal has base salaries of
$850,000 in 2015 and $901,000 in 2016.

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Lewis got a five-year, $25.5 million deal… The Saints gave Lewis a $6 million
signing bonus and his base salary will be $1 million this year. In 2014, Lewis’ base salary will be
$3.3 million. His salary jumps to $4.1 million in 2015, when he also can collect a $500,000 roster
bonus. In 2016, Lewis’ base salary is scheduled to be $4.45 million and he also can earn a
$500,000 roster bonus. In 2017, his base salary rises to $4.95 million and he can collect a
$500,000 roster bonus. The deal also includes a $50,000 workout bonus in each year of the
contract. Lewis also can earn escalators of $200,000 each year from 2013 through 2016.
Nakia Hogan, Times-Picayune: Lewis 5-yr deal with the #Saints worth $26.3M with $10. 5M in
guarantees, $6M signing bonus.
Mike Triplett, ESPN: He received a $4.4 million signing bonus as part of the restructured deal,
which essentially replaced the salary. He also added slightly to future roster bonuses. Here's the
new year-by-year breakdown, according to ESPN Stats and Information: Signing bonus: $4.4
million 2014: Base salary $1 million, workout bonus $50,000. Salary-cap cost $3.35 million. 2015:
Base salary $1.8 million, roster bonuses $700,000, workout bonus $50,000. Salary-cap cost
$4.85 million. 2016: Base salary $4.25 million, roster bonuses $700,000, workout bonus $50,000.
Salary-cap cost $7.3 million. 2017: Base salary $4.75 million, roster bonuses $700,000, workout
bonus $50,000. Salary-cap cost $7.8 million.
Katherine Terrell, Times-Picayune: The Saints have restructured Lewis' contract, according to a
source, guaranteeing an additional $10.4 million and giving him more money upfront. Lewis is
not getting any additional money with the restructure… The Saints did this by converting
portions of his 2015 and 2016 base salaries and combining that with $700,000 roster bonuses in
those years. Added together, the Saints were able to pro-rate the $3.9 million over three years,
which added an additional $1.3 million in bonuses in 2015-17. That dropped his 2015 base salary
from $1.8 million to $850,000 and his 2016 base salary from $4.25 million to $2.7 million. His
2015 and 2016 base salaries are fully guaranteed. Lewis' 2015 cap hit will drop from $4.85
million to $4.5 million. His 2017 base salary of $4.75 million remains the same.

Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Lofton's five-year contract is worth up to $33.5 million and includes a
$5 million signing bonus, according to a league source. During the first three years of the deal,
the base salaries are fully guaranteed. That includes $700,000 in 2012, $1.1 million in 2013 and
$1 million in 2014. He's also due roster bonuses of $5 million in 2013, $2.2 million in 2014 and

$6 million in 2016, which is a voidable year under the terms of the contract. The deal includes
escalator clauses.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Lofton got a five-year deal that averages $5.5 million per season… In 2015,
Lofton is scheduled to earn $2.4 million in base salary and collect yet another roster bonus for
$4.5 million and a $100,000 workout bonus. In 2016, Lofton’s base salary rises to $5.4 million
and he’s scheduled to receive a $100,000 workout bonus.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Lofton’s cap figure was scheduled to be $7.1 million. But the Saints were
able to drop that number to $3.1 million by replacing a scheduled $5 million roster bonus with a
$5 million signing bonus that will be pro-rated over the remainder of the contract.

priorities Tuesday, signing free agent defensive end Darren Mickell of the Kansas City Chiefs to a
three-year, $5.1 million contract. Mickell, 25, is scheduled to make base salaries of $600,000,
$1.95 million and $2.1 million, plus a signing bonus of $450,000, resulting in a 1996 cap value of
$750,000.
Brian Allee-Walsh/Mike Strom, Times-Picayune: Mickell will lose $176,470.58 in pay, fiveseventeenths of his $600,000 base salary. The suspension includes the open week of Oct.
Brian Allee-Walsh, Times-Picayune: Mickell, who abruptly retired one year ago at age 27, said
Thursday he is considering returning to football. Mickell, who was suspended for four games in
1996 for violating the NFL drug and alcohol policy, remains the property of the Saints. He has
one year remaining on a contract worth $1.2 million in base salary ($900,000) and roster and
workout bonuses ($300,000).

Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: The five-year deal is worth $20 million, plus another $1.5 million
in incentives. He received a $3 million signing bonus, and a total of $7 million is guaranteed.
Moore's scheduled base salaries are $2 million in 2011 and 2012, $2.5 million in 2013 and $3.1
million in 2014 and 2015. He's also due to receive roster bonuses of $1.5 million in 2012,
$500,000 in 2013 and 2014, and $1 million in 2015. And he's due to receive workout bonuses of
$200,000 in each year between 2012-2015. He'll earn an extra $100,000 every time he
surpasses 65, 70 and 75 receptions per year.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The Saints dropped Moore’s cap figure for this year from $4.3 million to
$2.9 million. Moore didn’t lose any money. His base salary was dropped from $2 million to
$825,000, but he made that up by receiving a $1.175 million signing bonus…
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: Additionally, Moore's $1.5 million roster bonus in 2012
was converted to an "amount treated like a signing bonus" that will also be prorated over the
four remaining seasons of the contract. The two tweaks reduce Moore's 2012 cap number from
$4.3 million to $2.29375 million.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Riley signed a two-year deal worth $2.075 million. But he got a signing
bonus of just $300,000 and a 2002 base salary of $525,000. His cap number for 2002 is only

Brian Allee-Walsh, Times-Picayune: The Saints' highest-paid player is offensive tackle William

NY Times: Roaf signed a three-year, $16.56 million contract extension with the New Orleans

Chris Mortenson, The Sporting News: The Saints ate a $ 500,000 signing bonus when they
decided to cut offensive tackle Tootie Robbins, who was signed as a free agent this offseason.
They didn't want to pay his $ 1.2-million salary because it became apparent that Robbins, who
suffered a shoulder injury, wasn't going to beat out first-round pick Willie Roaf.

Pat Yasinkas, ESPN: Robinson got a $2.2 million signing bonus and a $470,000 roster bonus for
this year. Like Weatherspoon, this is a deal with a club option for 2014 that has to be exercised
in 2011. Robinson gets a 2.3 million option bonus if that happens. He also is to earn $2.33 in
base salaries over the course of the contract, but those numbers could kick up on the back end
of the deal. Robinson also has a $75,000 workout bonus for each of the last three years of his
deal.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Robinson’s cap figured dropped from $2.9 million to $2.06 million. That
was accomplished by turning a $1.267 million roster bonus into a signing bonus that Robinson
received up front. Instead of counting the full $1.267 million against this year’s cap, that number
now is spread over the three remaining seasons on his contract.

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: It previously has been reported in various outlets as being worth $4 million.
That’s accurate. But let’s take a look at the entire structure. Rogers received a $500,000 signing
bonus. His base salary will be $2.5 million, with $1 million of that guaranteed. There also is a
$370,000 bonus in the deal that comes due if Rogers is on the opening-day roster. The deal also
includes $630,000 in incentives that fall into the “likely-to-be-earned’’ category.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: $4 million [2011 cap charge]
Brian Allee-Walsh, sportsNOLA.com: Rogers’ one-year contract is the least complicated of the
three but it does contain a weight clause. It calls for: A 2.5 million base salary in 2011 of which
$1 million is guaranteed. A $500,000 signing bonus. Numerous roster bonuses worth $370,000.
A $630,000 weight bonus which calls for him to keep his playing weight at a maximum of 350
pounds throughout the season. He weighed around 375 at the time of his signing, according to
team sources.

Like Cota, Royal was tendered a low-ball $ 397,000 contract by Carolina. The Saints, however,
got creative on the backside with agent Steve Weinberg. Royal's contract voids after one year if
the Saints improve in one of five defensive categories.
Brian Allee-Walsh, Times-Picayune: The New Orleans Saints waded into the restricted free-agent
pool again Wednesday, signing Carolina Panthers inside linebacker Andre Royal to a four-year,
$3.805 million offer sheet… Royal, who made $196,000 last season, will receive $2.05 million in
1998 - a guaranteed base salary of $2 million plus a $50,000 workout bonus. He received no
signing bonus. If the Panthers match the offer sheet, they would have to pay Royal a significant
amount of money with the likelihood that after the season, he would become an unrestricted
free agent. If Royal does not become a free agent after the 1998 season, he would make annual
salaries of $400,000, $535,000 and $670,000 from 1999 through 2001. Royal could earn $2.86
million in incentives for the length of the contract based on playing time, bringing the maximum
possible contract to $6.665 million.
Mike Strom/Brian Allee-Walsh, Times-Picayune: Royal was traded Sunday to the Indianapolis
Colts for tight end Scott Slutzker. Saints officials have paid Royal $850,000 of the contract, the
first $2.05 million of which was guaranteed. The Colts will be responsible for Royals guaranteed

Smith, who earned $361,000 in 1997
Juneau Empire: Smith, previously regarded as the likely successor to starter Chris Warren, left
the Seahawks to sign with New Orleans last weekend for $7.1 million over four years... Smith's
contract reportedly includes no signing bonus, but has $2 million guaranteed in the first two
years - $1.5 million in 1998 and $500,000 in 1999. He also has a one-time incentive of $800,000
for rushing for 1,000 yards in any season and can void the final season if he rushes for 1,000 in
any of the first three seasons.

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: five-year, $11.95 million contract (actually a six-year deal in which he
already has earned the right to void the final season)
Mike Florio, PFT: the deal is worth, by our calculations, $61.4 million over seven years. The value
increases to $62.3 million if Smith earns a $150,000 workout bonus in each of the six seasons
from 2009 through 2014… The contract contains guaranteed money in the amount of $25
million. If the non-guaranteed 2008 base salary of $700,000 is included, the practical guarantee
increases to $25.7 million. Smith pocketed a $12 million signing for signing his name on the
dotted line. He’ll receive a $5.45 million roster bonus in 2009, which is guaranteed for skill and
injury. Ditto for 2010, with the roster bonus increasing to $5.55 million. Also, his 2009 base
salary of $1.07 million is fully guaranteed, as is $930,000 of his $1.93 million salary in 2010. The
deal also includes up to $3 million in escalators based on sacks.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: it dropped Smith’s 2012 base salary from $7 million down to the veteran
minimum of $825,000. But Smith was well compensated for working with the Saints. He
received a $6.175 signing bonus as part of the restructure. He also is scheduled to earn a $1
million roster bonus in late March and a $150,000 bonus for taking part in an unspecified
number of the team’s offseason workouts. The only downside is that Smith’s 2013 cap figure
jumps to more than $14.5 million and will be almost $14 million in 2014, the final year of the
contract.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Smith was scheduled to count $14.502 million against the cap. In
the renegotiated deal, Smith's $1 million roster bonus and $150,000 workout bonus remain, but
his salary has been reduced to $3 million, a $6 million pay cut that lowers his cap number to
$8.502 million for the upcoming season. The 2014 season on Smith's contract, which calls for a
$10.4 million base salary, $1 million roster bonus and $150,000 workout bonus, was unchanged.

Mike Florio, PFT: The deal has a total value of four years, $18 million. Initially, I thought that

being $16 million over four… Spiller can make the extra $2 million via escalators in 2017 and
2018. In 2017, he gets up to $700,000 based on factors such as getting to the Pro Bowl and
generating specific amounts of rushing and receiving yards. In 2018, Spiller gets up to $1.3

Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: The former University of Georgia star has signed a four-year contract that
includes a signing bonus of $1.845 million and standard league minimum base salaries.
Calvin Watkins, Dallas Morning News: Colombo received a deal that resembles New Orleans'
tackle Jon Stinchcomb who signed a two-year $7 million contract.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Stinchcomb's deal, worth $22.5 million over four years, included
a signing bonus of $5 million and a 2010 completion bonus of $5.5 million, according to league
sources.
Pat Yasinksas, ESPN: Jonathan Vilma, Jabari Greer, Jon Stinchcomb and Devery Henderson each
have a $100,000 [workout] bonus [in 2011]
Brian McIntyre, MacsFootballBlog.com: The Saints did pick up the option year (2013) on
Stinchcomb's contract, which will pay out $8.1 million in base salary over the next three
seasons, with up to $7 million available in salary escalators in the final two years of the deal.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Stinchcomb’s $2.25 million base salary for this year was guaranteed, so the
Saints are on the hook for that. Throw in this year’s share of prorated bonuses ($2.425 million)
and the Saints are taking a $4.675 million cap hit this year. It could even be a little more.
Stinchcomb also was scheduled for a $100,000 workout bonus this offseason.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Reports that Jon Stinchomb's 2011 salary was guaranteed were
not accurate. The New Orleans Saints will save $2.25 million this year after releasing the eightyear veteran on Monday. Apparently, Stinchcomb's contract originally called for a guaranteed
salary this season, but the guarantee was voided after he received a $5.5 million "completion"
bonus in 2010.

Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: The Saints didn’t give Thomas a signing bonus, but they structured the deal
to include something similar. Thomas’ $640,000 base salary for this season is guaranteed, and
he’ll also get a $2.7 million roster bonus. Unlike a lot of deals, this one isn’t back loaded.
Thomas’ biggest salary-cap hit will come this year when his figure is $3.4 million. In 2012,
Thomas’ base salary will jump to $2.16 million and $860,000 of that is guaranteed. He also has a
$100,00 workout bonus, and his cap figure will be $2.6 million. In 2013, Thomas’ base salary will
be $2.1 million. He’ll also have a $300,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus. His cap
figure will be $2.5 million. In 2014, the base salary will be $2.5 million. Thomas has a $300,000
roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus. His cap figure will be $2.9 million. The deal also
includes escalators in each of the final three years that could boost Thomas’ base salaries.
Brian Allee-Walsh, sportsNOLA.com: Thomas’ contract totals $11,031,250 and calls for:
Numerous roster bonuses worth $2,731,250 during the first year of the contract in 2011. Annual
base salaries of $640,000 (guaranteed), $2.16 million (guaranteed), $2.1 million and $2.5 million

bonuses and $100,000 workout bonuses each in 2013 and ’14.
Larry Holder, Times-Picayune: Thomas' base salary for 2014 is now $855,000 after originally
being set for $2.5 million before the extension. His 2014 salary is fully guaranteed and with a
$1.245 million signing bonus. Thomas' base salaries are $2.1 million for 2015 and $2.2 million for

USA Today: $900,000 signing bonus; salaries of $250,000, $325,000, $400,000 and $440,000,
$485,000 for 1990-94 and roster bonuses of $25,000 in first two years, $50,000 the third year.
Total: $2.9 million over five years.
John DeShazier, Times-Picayune: Turnbull received a $3.25 million signing bonus and collected
$5 million last year (his signing bonus, plus $1.75 million in salary), when he counted $2.4 million
against the salary cap. For the next four seasons, his base salaries will be $2.25 million per year,
and he will count $3.15 million against the salary cap.
Brian Allee-Walsh, Times-Picayune: Right before training camp, Turnbull agreed to restructure
his contract in order to free up $1.15 million under the salary cap for Saints officials. In return,
Turnbull was paid a $3 million signing bonus, of which $1 million was deferred to this year,
meaning he has pocketed $6.25 million in two years. Four years remain on Turnbull's contract.
He is scheduled to receive annual base salaries of $1.5 million this season (cap figure of $2.75
million), $2.25 million in '97 ($3.5 million), $2.75 million in '98 ($4 million) and $2.25 million in
'99 ($2.85 million).
Under his old contract, Turnbull would have realized $10 million from 1995 through '98. Under
the new contract, he actually will realize $10.25 million, with the potential to make a lot more.
There are two key clauses in the new contract: In '98, Turnbull is guaranteed $1 million of his
base salary based upon playing time from 1995 through '97. In '99, he is guaranteed the average
base salary of the NFL's five highest-paid defensive ends, if he gets at least 40 sacks from '95
through '98.
John DeShazier, Times-Picayune: In 1997, Turnbull would be entering the third year of a fiveyear, $12.5 million contract. He would earn a base salary of $2.25 million and has collected a $3
million signing bonus and base salaries of $750,000 in 1995 and $1.5 million this year.

JI Halsell, FO: 5/34, 13.5 gteed, 22.5 over 3
Adam Schefter, NFL.com: The Saints reached agreement with free-agent linebacker Jonathan
Vilma on a five-year, $34 million contract that includes $17 million guaranteed and $23 million
in the first three years.
Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune: Vilma's deal calls for a $6 million signing bonus and a base salary
of $3.3 million in 2009, then a $3.5 million completion bonus and a base salary of $4.1 million in
2010, according to league sources.
AdamJT13: $3.53 million [completion bonus] for Vilma
Pat Yasinksas, ESPN: Jonathan Vilma, Jabari Greer, Jon Stinchcomb and Devery Henderson each
have a $100,000 [workout] bonus [in 2011]…
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Vilma received a $1 million signing bonus and lowered his base salary
for this year from $5.4 million to $1.6 million. There's also a $600,000 roster bonus this year. His
salary cap figure for 2012 is $4.93 million, down from an originally scheduled $7.632 million. In
the final year of his contract in 2013, Vilma's base salary is $4.8 million and he has an $8.63
salary-cap figure. There's a $1.1 million roster bonus due next year. The deal includes annual
$100,000 workout bonuses.
Pat Yaskinskas, ESPN: The Saints also added a $600,000 roster bonus, which might not come into
play, if Vilma is suspended. The deal also kept a $100,000 workout bonus.
Pat Yasinskas, ESPN: Assuming Vilma does not have the suspension overturned on appeal, his
contract “tolls’’ over according to league rules. What he was supposed to make in 2012 will now
be his 2013 deal. What had been scheduled for 2013 will be pushed back to 2014. But Vilma will
not be paid this year. That means he’ll have to wait until next year to earn his $1.6 million base
salary, a $600,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Vilma was scheduled to earn a $1.1 million roster bonus, which
was due on Wednesday, along with a $100,000 workout bonus and $4.8 million salary for a 2013
cap number of $8.6325 million. Under the renegotiation, Vilma's roster bonus was erased and
his base salary was reduced to $1 million. The Saints doubled his workout bonus to $200,000, all
of which results in Vilma having a 2013 cap number of $3.8325 million, a reduction of $4.8
million for the upcoming season.
