Global Warming Debate Research Paper
Objective: To write an argumentative paper and to understand how research can be used to unravel
scientific ideas and to better understand our world.
Assignment: To research both sides of the argument, type, and review a research paper arguing your
side of the debate, and submit it after it has been through a peer reviewed process. It is a longer
assignment (students have over a month to complete) and students are encouraged to begin soon.
Waiting until the last week makes the quality of the paper fall, and makes the student reviewing the
paper not get a proper introduction to the process.
Details: You will be given a side of the anthropogenic global warming argument and will have to support
that side of the argument whether you agree with it or not. The point of the paper is not to change your
ideas about the subject but to better understand the subject and how others could have different ideas.
After your initial paper has been written and submitted, you will be asked to check another student’s
paper on the same side of the argument, and you will submit their “peer reviewed” report, before the
next week of school has ended. You will be checking to see if that student did the proper research and
properly cited evidence for their argument.
