Assignment
• 7.4 Practice with Special Right Triangle
Review Worksheet
Last week we learned…
What the Pythagorean Theorem (and its converse) is, why it is, and who derived it. We then used the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles for side lengths. We used its converse to determine if three sides create a right triangle, and we learned how to identify
Pythagorean Triples. Finally, we learned about special right triangles
(45-45-90 and 30-60-90), where they come from and the properties related to each. We then applied the properties so that we found the side lengths of triangles.
Today, we will be able to…
Learn about “The Legend of Sohcahtoa”.
Also, students will apply their knowledge of SohCahToa and trig ratios to solve triangles
We will show we can do this by…
Asking and answering questions
Completing guided practice problems
Completing the bookwork assignment
To know how well we are learning this, we will look for…
Correct answers
It is important for us to learn this (or be able to do this) because....
We will be able to find the measures of angles in a triangle as well as identify each side length. This will help us in everyday situations when looking for distances and heights of objects.
Tomorrow we will learn about…
Continuing to apply our knowledge of Sohcahtoa and trig ratios to real-life story problems. We will complete a review for sections 7.2,
7.3 and 7.4.
7-4 Trigonometry
Trig Rap Video
Trigonometry comes from two Greek terms: trigon: metron:
Trigonometric Ratios
• Ratios of the lengths of sides of a right triangle.
• Three most common:
S O H C A H T O A
Example #1
• Find sin L, cos L, tan L, sin N, cos N, and tan N. Express each ratio as a fraction and as a decimal.
Example #2
• Use a calculator to find each value to the nearest ten thousandth.
• a. tan 56°
• b. cos 89°
Example #3
• Find x, y, and z
“Undoing” the functions
• In trigonometry, you can find the measure of an angle by using the inverse of sine, cosine, or tangent.
Example #4
• Find the measure of tan A = 1.4176 to the nearest tenth of a degree.
• Find m ∠𝑁 .

Yesterday we learned…
About Sohcahtoa and trigonometric ratios. We learned how to use trig ratios in solving triangles (finding all angle measures in a triangle and all side lengths).
Today, we will be able to…
Apply our knowledge of Sohcahtoa and Trig Ratios to real life situations. We will also review problems involving the Pythagorean Theorem and Special Right
Triangles.
We will show we can do this by…
Asking and answering questions
Completing the Review
