GSC: PolyU Pre-Challenge to groom student entrepreneurs
With the aim of grooming the business minds of students and encouraging them to explore their entrepreneurial
dreams, the GSC: PolyU Pre-Challenge was held on 16 April.
A total of 63 multi-disciplinary teams, comprised of 137 students, signed up for the contest. Under the
guidance and supervision of academic advisors as well as a series of training workshops and coaching sessions
offered by SAO, each team formulated a business plan related to products, management and/ or services. After
competitive selection, 29 qualifying teams were chosen to enter Round II, and three finalist teams with the
highest scores were invited to compete once again in the Final Round on 16 April.
During the Final Round, the three teams presented their business proposals to the panel of high-profile judges
to compete for the Gold, Platinum and Diamond Award of Innovation. Judges were impressed by the
contesting students’ collective talents, and initiatives that put their passion and knowledge into practice, adding
real value to our community while opening limitless opportunities for their own development.
Two music enthusiasts, Francis To and Ramon Yuen both
studying double majors of ISE & AF, were the champions,
winning the Diamond Award of Innovation for a project
titled EasyMusic. The judges appraised EasyMusic because
it helps people create beautiful music, even those who do
not necessarily have much musical knowledge, from
composing the melody to decorating it with accompaniment
and writing lyrics without difficulties. Upon winning the
Diamond Award of Innovation, Francis and Ramon will
represent Hong Kong by participating in a world-wide
business plan competition, the Global Student Challenge
(GSC), which will be held in Hong Kong in June.
