India Economic News:
India and the US resolve their
trade dispute and make way for
WTO trade deal
The World Trade Organization (WTO)
approved the first worldwide trade deal in its
history, ending a four-month impasse that
had put a question mark on the future of the
multilateral body, after India and the US
resolved their differences over public
stockholding of food.
The deal incorporates India's stand that an
interim solution on public stockholding for
food security reached at Bali last year will
continue indefinitely and not just for four
years as agreed earlier if a permanent
solution is not reached within the four-year
period..
"Members shall engage constructively to
negotiate and make all concerted efforts to
agree and adopt a permanent solution on the
issue of public stockholding for food
security purposes by 31 December 2015," a
statement prepared to be delivered at the
WTO general council by its chairman
Jonathan Fried said.
Immediately, the deal will open the door for
early implementation of the Trade
Facilitation Agreement (TFA) that will lead
to easier customs rules across the globe. The
agreement is expected to add as much as $1
trillion to the global economy and create
more than 20 million jobs, according to a
study by the Washington-based Peterson
Institute for International Economics.
US trade representative Michael Froman,
who was in India earlier this week, said the
breakthrough at the WTO would not have
been possible without the personal
1
engagement of Obama and Modi. "They
gave our partnership a mantra: Chalein Saath
Saath: Forward together we go. That's what
we're doing at the WTO. And that's what
we're doing in our bilateral trade and
investment relationship as well".

Wind energy sector in India
expected to attract USD 3.2 billion
of investments
India's sluggish wind energy market is set for
a revival following the restoration of a
depreciation incentive, which is expected to
attract about USD 3.2 billion of investments
next year as companies across sectors add
3,000 MW of capacity powered by this
renewable source of energy.
The
reintroduction
of
accelerated
depreciation (AD), which was withdrawn in
2012, is poised to support equipment
manufacturers, including Suzlon Energy Ltd,
the country's largest wind turbine maker,
which received 150 MW of orders soon after
the benefit was brought back.
Indian Nova dairy, which has plants in
Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar
Pradesh, plans to add 20-30 mw each year
until 2017, investing about USD 50 million,
with 13 megawatts already under
commissioning, Saluja said. Ayurvedic
pharmaceutical firm Shree Baidyanath
Ayurved Bhawan is setting up an
independent power unit to harness wind
power. "We're investing close to USD 75
million towards the addition of 75 MW of
wind energy this year. In the long term, we'd
like to scale it up to 500 MW," Baidyanath
MD Pranav Sharma told ET. Global
consultancy firm KPMG is advising the
company for the setting up of Baidyanath
Private Power Ltd.
Cement behemoth Holcim Group, which
owns ACC and Ambuja Cements, plans to
invest USD 20 million to add 20 MW of
wind power to its existing 26.5 MW, which
is the combined capacity of both units. Small
and medium enterprises are equally enthused
and hope to become more efficient by using
cheaper clean power.

Director, National Library of Serbia,
inaugurated the Exhibition ‘Digital Prints of
Artworks by Rabindranath Tagore’ on 13
Nov 2014 at the National Library of Serbia
[Atrium Hall], Skerliceva 1, Belgrade. The

Rabindranath Tagore, the most prominent
cultural figure from the un-fragmented
Indian subcontinent. His pictorial language
imparted a new dimension to modern Indian
paintings. The Tagore exhibition has been
provided by the Indian Council for Cultural

8
This Exhibition is a tribute to the Gurudev
Rabindranath Tagore, a great artist and a
master of many forms, a multifarious
personality, a true intellectual and one of the
greatest and best-known ambassadors of
Indian culture, whose name is synonymous
with humanity and harmony across cultures
and nations. His concept of creativity,
philosophy, literature, art and society
continue to inspire the world even today!
Gurudev Tagore has a special connection
with Serbia. Gurudev Tagore visited Serbia
(former Yugoslavia) in 1926 and gave two
lectures in the Belgrade University, had
lunch in ”Serbian King”, gave an interview
to Stanislav Vinaver and talked to the
Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic. Further,
Gurudev was moved by a certain gift: an old
Serbian robe hemmed with gold, made in
Kosovo in the 18th century. The Serbia
National Review edition (No. 4 of 2007)
which wrote about his visit to Belgrade,
described Gurudev as "the profound
interpreter of East” and stated that the
Serbian capital was amazed by the Indian
poet and philosopher, as well as he was

representative of its north, south, east and

occasion. They reflect both traditional and

design
interpretations,
highlighting a diversity of natural materials
and techniques, as well as an evolving
aesthetic and colour story.
9
The Sari, an unstitched draped garment with
a fluid grace, goes back at least a thousand
years in concept. It continues to capture the
imagination of Indian women who wear it in
daily life, as also on special occasions. This
woven and textured-with-pattern garment,
un-pierced by the stitching needle, is
elegantly appropriate in terms of aesthetics
and climate.
