How are Materials Used in SAP Plant Maintenance?
Planned
 Stock Materials may be planned on work orders. Planning a stock
material results in a “Reservation” being created in the storeroom. The
Storeroom can then pick, stage, and deliver the materials as required.
 Non-stock materials and services may be planned on work orders.
This results in a “Purchase Requisition” being created. This
requisition is then processed by procurement and the materials are
delivered to the University.
 “Text Items” – These a instructions or comments about the materials
required for a work order. This may be a note to bring a ladder or
supplies (like electrical tape).
Unplanned
 Stock Materials may be issued directly to a work order. Storeroom
personnel will issue the material and charge it to the work order
number. The name of the person receiving the material is also
recorded.
How are Materials “Found” to Plan on a Work Order?
By Description
 There are many ways to search for materials. The description is used
quite often for maintenance orders. “Wildcards” may be used.
Examples include: *bearing* - which will find all materials with
“bearing” in the description or *filter*16* which will find all materials
with “filter” and “16” (like Filter, Air, 16x20x1) .
By Bill of Material
 “Bills of Material” (parts lists) may be created for any Building, Floor,
Room, or Equipment. These list the parts frequently used to maintain
that item. Parts may be directly selected from the BOM.
By Task List
 Task Lists are maintenance procedures which include parts and labor.
These may be created for any Building, Floor, Room, or Equipment.
Including a Task List on an order will also include any materials on that
Task List.

Planning Materials on an Order
The system will prompt whether you wish to delete the
planning you have done. If you answer “Yes” the Task List will
replace what you have entered; otherwise the Task List will be
in addition to what you have entered.
