You must complete this online course before the first day of class. This course should take 12-15 hours to complete and will provide you with the foundation for what we will discuss in class. Course Description: MIS5122 is a technology “boot camp” for students entering the MS in IT Auditing and Cyber Security (ITACS) program which do not have a strong background in technology. This will be a demanding, fast paced course which utilizes online learning, traditional lectures/discussions, and hands-on exercises to introduce students to the technologies IT Auditors will need to work with when they complete the ITACS program. The course has two major parts. The first part is a self-paced online course from Harvard Business Publishing which will introduce students to the technologies we will work with in the classroom. Completion of this online course, including the online quizzes, is a prerequisite for the second part of the course. Completion of this part of the course will require approximately 15 hours. Students should NOT underestimate the amount of time MIS5122 Syllabus Summer 2014 and effort they will need to invest in order to be successful in this part of the course. Quiz grades from this part of the course make up a very significant portion of your final grade for this course. The second part of this course takes place in a traditional computer lab. A significant amount of reading will need to be completed each evening so that the student has the proper foundation before class meetings. Be able to explain system software and to contrast system software from application software. 3. Be able to explain the major components of a computer network. 4.
