HISTORY
The Turks
Turkic people lived in a region extending from Central
Asia to Siberia with the majority of them living in China
historically.
They were established after the 6th century BC.
They had lived in Asia until they came to Anatolia
• In the 10th century (AD), the Seljuks
started migrating from their ancestral
homelands towards the eastern regions
of Anatolia, which eventually became
the new homeland of Oğuz Turkic tribes
following the Battle of Manzikert
(Malazgirt) in 1071.
• Between 1299 and 1923 Ottoman Empire
ruled the country.

• Following the fall of the Ottoman Empire
after World War I, M. Kemal Atatürk
founded the Republic of Turkey.
• He made many revolutions in government
system, social life and civil law.
• Turkey became a modern country.
• Turkey is one of the first countries in the
world who gave the women right to vote
and to be elected.
He died on the "10th of November, 1938.
His mausoleum is in

• Turkey provides 70% of the world's
hazelnuts; the nut in your chocolate bar
was most probably grown in Turkey.

• St. Nicholas, today's Santa Claus, was
born in Patara (next to Kalkan, Antalya) and

• The first church built by man (St. Peter's
Church) is in Antioch (Antakya). It was here
that Christianity first took this name.
• One of the two cities in the world located on
two continents is Istanbul, which has been
the Capital of three great empires, Roman,
Byzantine and Ottoman for more than 2000
years.
• The oldest known human settlement is in
Catalhoyuk (near Konya), Turkey (7500
B.C.).
