IN THE AUDITORIUM • REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL CGHS DEPARTMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AFTER THE GENERAL MEETINGS TIMELINE • THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, JANUARY 28TH AND 29TH MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL BE MEETING WITH THEIR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS TO DISCUSS THE SCHEDULING PROCESS • FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH—ALL PINK SCHEDULING FORMS ARE DUE TO YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR • FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH—ALL HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL SPEND THE DAY AT MS NORTH AND MEET WITH THEIR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS • MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND—ALL HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL SPEND THE DAY AT MS CENTRAL AND MEET WITH THEIR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS • MAY 1, 2016—LAST DAY FOR ANY COURSE REQUEST CHANGES QUICK OVERVIEW OF SCHEDULING 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. DIPLOMA TYPES • CORE 40 • CORE 40 WITH ACADEMIC HONORS • CORE 40 WITH TECHNICAL HONORS • 46 CREDITS ARE REQUIRED FOR A CGHS DIPLOMA • STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN 56 WITHOUT ANY SUMMER SCHOOL • (8 SEMESTERS X 7 CREDIT HOURS) FRESHMEN REQUIRED COURSES • ENGLISH 9 • MATH • SCIENCE • SOCIAL STUDIES • KEYSTONE/PE • FOREIGN LANGUAGE (IF COLLEGE BOUND) YOUR STUDENT’S RECOMMENDATIONS • EACH STUDENT WILL RECEIVE A PINK COURSE REQUEST FORM WITH A LABEL THAT LISTS THE CLASSES RECOMMENDED FOR THE FRESHMEN YEAR. • THE CRITERIA INCLUDES: ISTEP SCORES, CLASS GRADES, CSI, SRI AND INPUT FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS. • IF A STUDENT WAS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AN HONORS CLASS AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPEAL, THERE IS A FORM ON THE CGHS GUIDANCE PAGE. HOW MANY HONORS CLASSES SHOULD MY CHILD TAKE? • IF YOU ARE RECOMMENDED FOR A HONORS CLASS, YOU CAN STILL TAKE THE REGULAR VERSION. • FOR AN ACADEMIC HONORS DIPLOMA, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE HONORS CLASSES, BUT THE SET CURRICULUM BY THE STATE. • BASE THE SCHEDULE ON YOUR CHILD’S INDIVIDUAL INTERESTS, WORK ETHIC AND FUTURE PLANS. • WHAT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES ARE THEY IN? HOW MUCH HOMEWORK DO THEY CURRENTLY HAVE, ETC. Once on Skyward you need to click on the “Schedule” tab on the left side of the page. #2: Once you find the course you want to take click “Add Course”.
