ASSESSMENT AND GRADING CRITERIA
This assignment is split into tasks. In each task there is a chance to work towards the pass criteria for this unit; you must complete all pass tasks to achieve a pass for this unit.
Activities completed independently in class may contribute towards a pass mark.
In some tasks there may be the opportunity to complete additional and more detailed work to achieve a Merit or Distinction.
Merit and Distinction tasks require a greater depth of understanding with clear evidence of independent learning and research. These tasks expect you to be able to relate your answers to a practical setting.
REMEMBER: You must complete all the pass tasks before starting on Merit or Distinction.
Whilst working on this assignment you will be able to practice functional skills for English and ICT. The English standards include speaking, listening and communication, reading and writing.
The ICT standards include using ICT, finding and selecting information and using appropriate software.
P1 - Identify different forms of communication.
This could be a detailed spider diagram, a written report with sub headings or a poster
M1- Describe technological aids to communication used in health and social care environments
This could be a piece of writing or a booklet that describes in detail different forms of communication requiring technological aids and how they can be used.
P2 – Explain barriers to communication within a health and social care environment
This should be a detailed piece of writing covering at least three barriers and the methods you would use to overcome them. You could set this out in paragraphs with sub headings.
OCR L2 Unit 1 2012-2013
P3- Take part in an effective one-one interaction
This task is about how you communicate with people in different settings. You will take part in a role play to show your communication skills. We will have practised this in class before you do your assessment.
You will need to complete a reflective piece of writing about your communication skills
P4 - Take part in an effective group interaction
For this activity you will be given a situation that you must discuss in a group. Everybody must contribute to the discussion and you should try to all agree the final outcome.
Your tutor will observe you for this task, to say how you approached this task, what part you took, what communication skills you used etc. This statement will form part of your evidence so you must keep it safe in your folder.
You will complete a reflective piece of writing about the communication skills you used
M2: Describe the barriers to effective communication on their two interactions
This will be a written detailed description about the barriers to communication in the two communication activities
D1: Assess the strengths and weaknesses of their two interactions
This will be a well planned piece of writing which discusses strengths and weaknesses of both interactions.
