The duration of the paper is 1 hour 15 minutes.
Provision of Word List
The Foundation Science paper focuses on assessing students’ grasp of basic
scientific knowledge. A word list is provided during the examination to allow
students to display their knowledge and understanding without being
unduly disadvantaged by their weakness in the English language. It should
be appreciated that the list is not exhaustive.

Listening Comprehension
• This paper tests the pupils’ ability to
understand spoken Mother Tongue language.
• Standard MT: 10 questions,
• Foundation MT:15 questions
• 2 mark each.
• Texts may be in the form of news items,
announcements, advertisements, story with
moral values, Pictorial representation,
interpretation of conversation etc.

(1)Part 1 : Reading Aloud (20 marks)
•Ability to pronounce and read words clearly.
•Ability to read fluently with appropriate expression/ intonation
and speed
(2) Part 2: E-Oral Dialoguing(Standard MT: 20 marks)/
(Foundation MT:30 marks)
•Ability to interpret the content of the video clip accurately and
to talk/elaborate on it with own opinion, using grammatically
correct sentences and appropriate vocabulary.
•Ability to be engaged in a conversation with the examiners.

Exemption of MT
• Bilingual Policy in Singapore to offer one Mother
Tongue
• Exemption is only offered to students who have
learning disability or enter into the Singapore
educational system mid stream
• Alternative, students can opt to offer foreign
language/ NTIL language in lieu of Mother Tongue
with approval from MOE
